I tried to purchase refill carts for my Epson 730 only to find that the carts in Australia are not the same as USA and Europe.
To add insult to injury all the printers I would like to buy are also using 81/81N carts.
Forget cost for a moment. What is it in the printer that has it recognise a particular Chip? are we there Yet? or am I thinking silly thoughts?
What if we worked out how to fool the printer software into believing that it was looking at an A cart, when in fact a B cart is installed?

Dont bother trying to fool the chip its a waste of time after all their sole purpose is to fool us.

Regional variations can be overcome by replacing these chips with the ones from your own region
or just use ARC chips probably a safer option.. :)

Now you do like opening cans of worms, and that is an unkind ting to be doing to a beginner like me ;) What is an ARC chip anything like a Smiths chip :th

I actually took an 81N cart apart, and aside of getting blue hands I ended up with a chip that would not go back on, and on close examination the cart used by 1430 (A3) and the little 730 (A4 + Scanner) is nothing at all like the replacement carts for the 1430 and 730 available in the USA. I MEAN they could at LEAST have had the decency to tag us on with Europe!

I am now thinking on drilling and filling? but the cart looks to me a veritable maze of plastic channels. Behind the 81N chip are two spring contacts much like a torch.

Cheers

ARC chips can easily be gotten at most good ink suppliers and usually come already
attached to a compatible cartridge; they have nothing at all to do Gary Lineker. :bow

The word (ARC) is short for Automatic reset chip, this type of chip can be used
instead of the OEM chip that comes with every new cartridge.

There is nothing to be gained by dismantling an Epson cartridges at all except confusion and it would be better
to follow some others advice who have worked out how to refill these cartridges without having to take them apart. :he

You could have a look at jtoolman video on refilling some Epson cartridges here ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB8QspjBbhk
which should explain a great deal to you and show you how easy it is when you have the correct setup.

I tried to get carts from PC in Canada. They are the folks that woke me up to the issue. USA uses a TO........and we use an 81/81N (larger capacity) so unless I am missing the clues (quite possible!!)
that is a no go for my 730.

However, a fella does a CIS system here in Australia, was thinking on going that way but purchasing good ink outside Aus.

I was thinking about Jtoolman and pulled up this site to track down his uTube video on the carts that he drilled and had a push in plug thingymajig!! :old BUT I still have the problem with chip resetter if I reuse my own carts. Spose I could take a leaf out of your book and run with no warning, but do REGULAR top up!!

Jtoolman has a lot of good refilling techniques posted on here to help you through most of the Epson cartridges.

You could Google Alibaba to see if they have any suitable ARC chips for your cartridges
I am sure they could even counterfeit your granny if you really wanted a new one. :old

The CISS route is another good option open to you as well and I would recommend you give Rihac a try for your inks..:)

Thanks for the thumbs up on them, I was looking at their site last night and bookmarked it on the off chance. I had it in my mind to purchase their system and use PC's inks. I guess the question now becomes, what is the quality difference, if any. The CISS is A$ 150 with ink already so I was considering giving it a go and let a few prints sit a while exposed to daylight and that would give me at least SOME indicators of colour fast (ness?) by the time the first colour tank is ready to replace. that will be a while as the tanks are 100ml.

We are SUDDENLY pulling up the carpet in our study (been gunna do it for ages!!) so I am on the process of packing everything away (talk about timing and them wot must be obayed.....) bit like a fella gets under the car and has half the engine strewn around him and most of the oil to boot. The wife comes out and says we are going to visit Mum for lunch....(its already 12 o'clock and a fella has been there since dawn :he

Cheers.

Have now made contact with Rihac, they are in fact located just down the road from me. Their sales/tech contact is Sam. and Sam tells me that he can do a CISS system for my Epson 730 ( Which uses the same carts as the 1430) he offers either a Dye based system, or at slightly higher cost a Pigment encapsulated system. In addition he has carts etc. for the wide format Epson printerts!!!

Interestingly he is putting a window of around five years on Dye inks, again depending on the paper used. What he is telling me is that my stocks of Matte Canon and Epson A4 can use and work well with their encapsulated Pigment inks so If I switch from Dye to Pigment on the 730 I will not have to toss a lot of paper.

They are also able to do refill and carts for my 3880 so that if it becomes hard to bring supplies in from Cone I have a backup handy.

Cheers,

Andrew
