InkMiser
Getting Fingers Dirty
@ The Hat & siusienen
Do the PGI-9 carts require a vacuum seal? From what I've read, it's a matter of getting the right amount of ink into the cart without air bubbles. After a bout of googling, I've come up with a catalog of valves, tubing and syringes that remind me uncomfortably of a hospital stay. By and large, they apply to Epson carts and not Canon. I also found a valve plug for Epson carts that looks very handy if it can be used with the PGI-9 carts. It would entail a one-time modification for each cart. Siusiuenen, is this what you have in mind?
Out of curiosity, why does the hole have to be drilled at the bottom of the cart as opposed to the top, as I did with my BCI-6's? I'm sure there's a sound reason but if one could do it from the top, fitting the carts to the print head, post-modification, would be less of a concern. And of course, one could refill the carts on the fly.
Fyi, I found the precise model number for the resetter recommended by The Hat in China. But they want me to order 20 pieces at $5.50 each (not bad, really). Instead, I've ordered something on e-Bay that looks identical, works on CLI-8 carts and has almost the same model number for $20. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've also ordered a complete set of inks from inkjetcarts. Of my ten carts, several are new so it may be a while before I'm able to profile with the third party inks. Is it important to flush out the carts before injecting the new ink, or is that just a counsel of perfection? I count myself ahead if I can avoid mixing up the carts...
Thanks everyone for the good advice. I'm excited by this project.
