IP7250 startup cartridges

I'm thinking about getting a new IP7250 printer and using refillable carts. In the past when I've purchased a new Canon printer I've flogged the original carts on EBAY which subsidised the printer cost.

However, I seem to remember reading somewhere on the forum, that the OEM carts which come with the IP7250 have reduced ink in them. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Yes they are. In the past with the CLI-6/CLI-8 cartridges there were no differences, but Canon has become more greedy now. Try with a little bit tiny amount of ink....You will need more: BUY MORE hahaha.

Just wondering if start up cart ink levels vary per region. Got this from reputable seller on EBAY UK (I can vouch for this seller)

I can pick up a new IP7250 for £52 on Ebay Uk and flog the carts for £20. Then it's over to Octoinkjet for ink and refillable carts.

Am I missing something?

Yes, probably. From a German website I read that the use of the setup cartridges was mandatory when installing the the printer for the first time. Other cartridges will not work for the first install and setup of the printer. See this post.

Interesting but I'm not sure it's correct because startup carts and new IP7250 printers with non oem carts are still on sale on EBAY UK. Can anyone with an IP7250 shed some light on this. Perhaps it's different by region.

I'm tempted to get a new IP7250 and it will be interesting to see if it will work without the startup carts. It's obvious that someone's found a way round it, at least in the UK

Just an update. Bought a new IP7250 and am using refillable carts from the startup. So OEM startup carts are not needed and so far I'm quite impressed with the printer.

The Hat got me thinking about using non OEM carts (which I've never done before) as he suggested that compatible carts were now of higher quality. I'm using refillable carts from Intelli-ink (seemingly a UK company) on EBAY (UK) and I'm quite impressed with the quality. Using the top fill method, you don't have to worry about tearing or squashing the sponges and the carts are so cheap that you don't have to worry about purging. Just buy a new set.

Still using the squeasy bottles from Octoinkjet. Great product. The ARC chips seem to work very well but this is the first printer I have bought where I'm not using refilled OEM carts.

I was beginning to think that Canon had put an end to refilling but perhaps it's not over yet.
