Don’t worry I know where the battery is, so there will be no problem over that.. :thumbsup
I had something else in mind as open brain surgery with a dremel ;).

As @The Hat experienced, older generation Canon dye printers must have been sturdy.

But I entered the scene too late (with the 525/526 carts) and had a lot of frustration.
Maybe cause of the German (Durchstich) refill method.
Also the refill inks faded while you were looking at them (but they were very cheap).

I still have 2 in stock (MG8250 and IX6500) but I better dump them in the recycling park as all the others (mostly MG5250's).

I think 54000 pages printed with one QY6-0067 print head is very impressive :)That printhead was considered fragile and the replacement type QY6-0075 less so.
I have cleaned out the auld printer and remover the head for the last time and the print head number was in fact the QY6-0067, so if Canon would just keep on making them like this one then we'd have a lot less problems.

But I have noticed the 5 cartridge heads tend to last longer than the 8 and 10 versions do, maybe the larger heads are put under more strain and have much the same electronics in them despite having more ink outlets to deal with.. Higher temperatures..

Today I decided to replace my iP4300 that suffers from cross contamination with an MP 800. Before changing the printers I did a nozzle check on the MP800 and sadly got this, click to enlarge:

This just shows that old canon printheads can fail suddenly without warning. A couple of days ago the printer was perfect. Luckily I have an MP980 with a reasonably good printhead and a CCD scanner. In spite of beginning blurring in BK it still prints good photos. I wonder how long that printer will last?

nice to hear that another MP980 still working. i have one that i use mainly for color printing, along w a stored MP980.

i use my MX870 for BW text printing, it used the same carts as the MP980. so it is fairly easy to swap ink carts back and forth since different carts are used. when carts get low i pull all 11 ink carts and refill/top them all off at once and put back in.

i remember years ago you sent me some parts for my MP830, they kept it going for over a year, so big thx.
