Hello,

Newbie here, no previous refiling experience.

Is it possible to use CLI-8 inks in an IP4000 (to get better fading resistance)?
If so, can you please point me to a relevant resource.

Thank you,
Alex.

Hi Alexo,

You can without any problem. I myself do use Hobbicolors UW-8 inks in my MP780 and i9950 (EU-version of the i9900) without any problems. Take into account that due to some colour differences personal colour profiles are recommended to get the proper colours.

In fact you can use genuine/original Canon CLI-8 cartridge in your BCI-6 based printer without any problems: the printer will rely on the prism only and does nothing with the chips.... After the ink has been consumed and the cartridge is empty you can resell those cartridges to others who can benefit from a chip that still reads full for a reasonable high price.

Thank you pharmacist!

How does one use the "personal color profiles" to get the right colors?
Also, What should I use for the BCI-3e cartridge?

Stick with the BCI-3eK cartridge, the PGI-5Bk cartridge does not fit well inside older BCI-3eK/BCI-6 printers and besides: both printers contain fade resistant pigment ink, so there is not much difference.

Personal color profiles can only be used in ICC-aware software like Photoshop and Qimage.

P.S.: why tackle a very old topic ?

If you use a set of cli8 cartridges including at least CMY colors you will not need profiles to print almost identical colors. Same thing for using UW8 ink. You should use all or non for balanced colors. I use Hobbicolors on my mp780 and ip4200. I can't detect any color differences between the two printers. I no longer have a set of cli8 cartridges so I can not say the same when using them on both printers. But I doubt there would be differences either. I should have tested it before my original ink in my cli8s ran out.

There is one BIG difference that I wish I could get in bulk ink and that is the PGI-5BK pigment black ink will not run when you use a highlighter on the printed text.

ghwellsjr,

I use KMP pigment ink for both my BCI-3eBk and PGI-5Bk and this ink is highligther resistant. This is the only pigment ink that is highlighter resistant. The pigmented ink from Inktec and Jettec are inferior to this KMP ink.

See these links:

KMP pigment ink: http://tintenalarm.de/images/testbilder/KMP.jpg
Jettec pigment ink: http://tintenalarm.de/images/testbilder/JetTec.jpg

See how good this KMP ink is !!! I use it in my MP780 and the text prints are razor sharp like laserprinter printouts and really deep black.

Is the KMP ink 100% pigment? I presume it is if it is highlighter resistant. Will it smear if you drip water on a printed page?

Now, where can I get some? I hope it is not available just in Europe. Any USA suppliers?

ghwellsjr,

the KMP is pure pigment and has very good flowing properties. It does not smear at all with a drip of water on the printed pages. What I really like is the deep black and razorsharp letters on normal paper, which is rivaled only by the original Canon ink.

I even use the refill HP black cartridges with it and the printouts are very good and indistinguishable from the original HP ink.

Did you notice the difference in highlighter resistance between KMP and Jettec pigment ink ? The Jettec ink smears considerably.

the KMP can be obtained in small bottles ranging from 100 ml up to 1 liter bottles. The 1 liter bottles cost about 30. Now the shipping costs and custom duties...........

Yes, I noticed the highlighter results. I know also the Canon BCI-3eBk will smear with a highlighter and so does the Inktec ink. I found on www.kmp.com (English) a refill kit with very small bottles of ink. Where do you get the 100ml and 1 liter bottles?
