insight on refilling

its been several years since i needed a printer>
I had a Brother MFC-J480DW multifuncation print scan copy fax that worlked well that used refillable/resettable LC201/Lc203 cartridges> after a couple years It died, time to replace so i am looking at options:

The New compatable brother MFC-497JDW uses LC3013 and LC3011 cartridges i cant seemt to find refillable resettable cartridges, model may be to new.

Looking for a multifunction inkjet in the less than 80 range.
Nothing serious for printing but want color/multifunction with refillable Carts.
maybe i should look at other brands?
is there a defacto "best"( IE easiest) brand model to refill?

I wonder if i should consider a (color) laser multifuntion, but i think cost would be exhorbitant compared to and inkjet.
any insight on what brand model to consider?

Looking for a multifunction inkjet in the less than 80 range.

Aim a little higher and get a Canon Maxify inkjet printer.

Refillable, larger capacity cartridges. Third party ARC cartridges on Alibaba. Third party ARC cartridges and refill ink at Precision Colors. Auto-Duplex printing. (Auto-Duplex Scanning requires the more expensive 5xxx models)

Image quality is good, certainly good enough casual printing, but not high quality. Text is great and water resistant as all cartridges are pigment ink. No CD/DVD printing AFAIK.

Go to a brick and mortar store where they have a Maxify on display and print a test page to see quality. I was very pleased with the output from this printer, mostly articles with graphics and images.

Sure, but follow our fearless Moderator's advice and look at all the models to choose the one that best fits your needs.

Some are faster, some have larger ink cartridges (PGI 2200 and 2200XL), some have more than one paper tray, and some can do automatic duplex scanning from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder). I think they all do auto-duplex printing, but make sure your model has this feature if desired.

From what I've read and been told, all the Maxifies have the ability to be refilled and thus save money.

I do not print photos much anymore, except when they are part of an article or receipt, and the time that I did print on CD/DVD is long past (have several hundred top quality blanks left). So, I am thrilled with the output quality from the Maxify MB5120.

i will take a look, one thing i did not mention, is the ability to print double sided on 8.5x11 card stock(199gram/110 lb)

You will need to look at the User Manual to determine what card stock can be used.

For the Maxfly MB2020, the User Manual states on page 173:

Paper Weight

You can use paper in the following weight range.

•17 to 28 lb (64 to 105 g /m2) (plain paper except for Canon genuine paper)

Do not use heavier or lighter paper (except for Canon genuine paper), as it could jam in the machine.

Thanks for the reply, it seems my calculation is off on LB, it is actually 110lb cardstock that is used, i need to find a machine that will handle printing that weight double sided.
...and be refillable, obviously cost will increase so that variable is out, still looking for as economical as possible.
any other manufacturers/models worth looking at?

You can stop looking because no printer will do auto double sided printing on that weight of paper..

Cheapest is never a good option to judge your next printer on..When you pay to little you sometimes lose everything..
