Dear All,

For years I struggled with clogging ink and ink sodden paper. I always found for infrequent printing Inkjets were too much hassle. So a few years ago I bought a Mono Laser which is quick cheap and very clean, no messing around at all.

Recently I bought an Epson 4880 for a client and realised that even when it is not used for a couple of months the machine will print perfect results immediately, no cleaning and wasting paper checking it is clean.

I am now wondering if Inkjets are all like that these days? I am tempted to buying an all in one Inkjet printer if that is true.

Any advise would be great.

Thanks,

David Lee

So in your experience, with modern Inkjets do you find they need cleaning much?

Not too interested in knowing more about the other functions just if Inkjet are better than they were 4 years ago.

davidlee..

They certainly print much better, (cleaning is a different kettle of fish) all models have their pluses and minuses..

So can you leave any of your desktop inkjets off for a couple of months and then print without it needing a clean?

The latest generation of Epson printers have been dramatically improved over the last generation in clogging issues. It has taken place over two generations of designs. They still consume more ink than competitors but that will always be the case due to their print head technology. Similarly a rotary motor will never be able to compete for fuel economy against a diesel. Epson's head design has a pro and con aspect and each user needs to weigh them versus their needs.

If you're looking into primarily printing images, they should be on your short list.
