I purchased this ink after reading about it in these forums. I have to say, my experience so far is poor.
I've never had even a minor problem with Canon ink. But everytime I print something, at least one color doesn't work. I confirm this by printing a test pattern, then I have to go through a nozzle cleaning....sometimes 3 times!

I've thrown away carts that were only half used, thinking the next one would be better...but they all have the same problems.

I didn't really save money after all.

I have a theory why most, if not all, third-part cartridges are inferior to Canon's and it is expressed in these posts:

If anyone reading this post knows of a different compatible cartridge that uses two different sponge materials, please post its source.

Sometime between my last order and the one before that Hobbicolors stopped using two-piece sponges and went to a one-piece. In their case the bottom sponge did not go very far inside the cartridge, but that might not matter functionally if the idea is to create a hydraulic gradient internally to the cartridge. The sponge material is of a lighter color than previously. The two-sponge configuration may be subject to patent protection, and that could explain the absence of the imitation. My cartridges are fresh so it is easy to see the difference.

Thank you GHWells for your work on this, which must have saved many of us (and many who do not post) from tearing out our hair, and/or dropping the Canon out the window!

F.W.I W I use Hobbicolors inks in both Hobbicolors and Canon OEM carts and I have to clean, prime, pump, test, etc sometimes more than three times to get the ink going .
It matters not if the printer has all OEM, mixed or HC, the routine is the same an both my IP3000 and IP5000.
After a few minutes everything settles down and there are seldom further problems.I have a scheduled test print run daily.
The inconvenience is nothing compared to the horiffic cost of oem ink.

This is a bit off the mark, sorry, but I can't find the appropriate forum for the subject:

Does anyone know of a local distributer for non oem bulk ink and refills in Israel for the IP4300?
thanks in advance.

Welcome, ariehz, to the best forum on the internet. I can understand your confusion, about how to make your first post, but fortunately, you can always correct anything you generate. Here's what you should do:

To start a new thread, you need to click on the Index button near the top left corner of every screen, select a general category, in this case "Non OEM Ink & Cartridge Suppliers", then before clicking on any of the Topics, click on the link off to the right that says "Post new topic" and reask your question. You should also come back to this thread, scroll down to your post, click on the Delete link that only shows up in your screen. That way your replies will be in one easy to find location. I'll delete this post after you do that.

Just a reply to Mitch and his experience with G&G carts. I have been using a Canon I550 for over five years without a problem until I used the G&G carts. My printer just stopped printing all together at first I thought it was the printhead and cleaned that but I don't feel it is the print head.I am going back to Canon carts to see if that solves the problem I feel it is worth the few dollars vs buying a new printer. Will let you know the results in a few days.

I just dealt with the same problem with the G&G cartridges. One color wouldn't print - I'd clean the head and nozzles, then the black wouldn't print - repeat. very frustrating. Threw away 10 G&G carts - some were leaking in their unopened packages.....

I ran down to Costco, bought Canon carts, and no more problems. Plopping down $10/cart hurts, but less than the frustration of not being able to print reliably!

Dsimonl, what you described sounds like a leaking on the print head. But it may not be really caused by defective cartridges. I could be wrong but it sounds very similar to what I have experienced with Hobbicolors virgin cartridges. It turned out that I put too much ink into the cartridges when I refilled them. Cleaning cycles won't immediately fix the problem. I had to take each of the cartridges out and blew through the vent to force some ink out of the exit hole from the cartridges. The leaking stopped right away and the printer worked fine ever since. Try to see if the G&G ink cartridges you got are too full of ink. You can use paper tissue to wick some ink out of the ink exit hole and see if the problem will be fixed. Chances are good that it will work.

What you are saying is probably true. The new G&G cartridges I used made a mess of the print head and printer with spilled ink. However, wouldn't you consider a cartridge that was overfilled to be a factory defect? Especially if it causes the printer to not print?

I just ordered a bunch of Procolor cartridges. Hopefully they are better!
