I called HP and told them that this printer had barely printed a few hundred pages before the print head died. I told them about the pending class action from Morgan and Morgan law firm (US). I reminded them about the existing Class Action settlement relating to defective WiFi radios in this and other lines of OfficeJets. Their answer? "We can't replace the printhead cause the machine isn't under warranty".

Screw you, HP. Based on my recent experiences with your printers and your laptops, I will avoid buying any of your products, and will recommend other brands to everyone I meet.

Sorry, I don't understand the question. Do you mean how did I come to that conclusion?

seems like hp ink flow protection system is having problems in these printers. It it on purpose I do not know. Canon has no such evil inside their printers.

Okay, colour me perplexed. I just came across this video by accident.

Reseteo impresora HP Officejet Pro 8500 8100 8600 (de Panel táctil)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbx2B_Z0bic

Just select cc (closed captioning) in the menu and select your favourite language and
you should be able to understand at least some of what I'm talking about.

This makes it look like you can go to a different service menu with the printer partially off (or something, I don't know how to describe it, since you never see the normal screens).

I know this may not fix my particular problem, esp. if the print head is damaged, but for future, is this a way to get around the ink system failure message?

What exactly is going on in this video?
Great! I tried finding that mfg menu before. on the pro 8600 i needed to press the on button for much longer than 5 seconds. There is a full reset there. You can also go back to the out of the box set up. On the ordinary secret support menu you can override the need for setup cartridges. I have not used any of these mfg functions
