Hi Everyone,

I am currently working on a printing device project, and searching for a black ink cartridge, with the following specifications(among the others):

1. Nozzle Plate Length ~3cm !!!
2. Cartridge Size H = 3cm L = 3cm W = 2.3cm.

Will be more than grateful for any relevant information regarding a cartridge with the previously mentioned criterion.

I am aware that the cartridge size requirement may be challenging, as a result, at this stage the requirment may be neglected.
Any information about customized ink cartridges manufacturers will be welcomed as well.

Thanks in Advance,

Simyon.

I am not sure that such cartridges exist. The smallest ink cartridges I know are newer HP combined sponge/print head cartridges like HP 300 (EU) / HP 60 (US). The black cartridge has a length of the nozzle row of 16 mm, cartridge length 48 mm, cartridge height 46mm and cartridge width 32 mm.

Maybe an HP 10 or 11 single colour print head better meets your demands. I don't know the dimensions but these print heads are smaller than the combined cartridges and have a decent nozzle row length. They need an external ink supply, they are used in printers with a built-in pump driven CIS system.

Hi Peter,

Thanks a lot for the link!
Several further questions with your permission:

1. Taking into account the sizes of the cartridge:
Package dimensions (W x D x H) - 109.98 x 25.91 x 148.08 mm
Taken from:
http://www8.hp.com/emea_africa/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=12866

and the layout:

Seems that the nozzle length would be around 50mm.
The developed device requirements are of ~30mm.
Any chance you can think of an existing ink head with this nozzle plate length?
(Anyway, for the prototype purposes, this would hopefully do the work...)

2. After several hours of web search, I couldn't find any list/table/engine which provides the information of all the ink cartridges per manufacturer with the nozzle plane length data.
Are you familiar with this type of database/doc/... or where/how can it be found?
3. Are you familiar with manufacturers who may provide cartridges customization?

Thanks a lot for the help and time,
Simyon.

HP print heads and cartridges are often much smaller than the package they come in. The 2 colour print head HP 940 has a nozzle length of around 1" or 25mm. I think the HP 10 print head also has a nozzle plate of this length. Here is a Youtube video showing cleaning of an HP single colour print head type 85, I guess it similar to type 10/11. Compare the size of the print head to the size of the hands of the person in the video. Maybe someone on the forum actually knows the dimensions of these print heads? This little print head also comes in a package 109.98 x 25.91 x 148.08 mm

HP doesn't provide much info about these print heads, I have not been able to find the dimensions. I don't know any databases with that info. I don't know any manufacturers of customized print heads, but I think a custom manufactured print head or ink cartridge would be very expensive.

I wonder what are you building with such tight requirements for print head?

Hi Gamafix,

As to your question - we are working on a miniature hand held printer.
The tight requirements are due to the dimensions of the device and its applications.
Any chance you are familiar with manufacturers who may develop a customized cartridge and supply in large quantities?

Thanks,
Simyon.

In case you are still working on this project, there is a cartridge I could suggest:
A Lexmark 16 black ink cartridge. They are slightly smaller than the HP 60 cartridge, so it might be the best choice. I am not sure on the nozzle count or anything like that, though.
Here is a pic:
