hmmmmm, i was also confused about needle gauge that's why i ordered 2 different sizes, the needles i ordered from alotofthings are 2.5" 18g, 3.5" 22g the 18g actually will slide into the 22g, to avoid confusion my receipt shows that the 18g is 2.5" long and the 22g is 3.5" long i'm not trying to add to the confusion this is just what i have recieved

You received 16 guage needles instead of 22 guage. 22 guage needles ate approx 0.7 mm diameter. 16 guage are approx 1.6 mm dia. You are probably in a restricted state.

Nice links to the pertinent information concerning the Durchstich Method of refilling. The best index of videos and text/graphic instructional info is at http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=13145#p13145. That's a post in a thread that you linked to earlier.

Looking through the posts, I have seen various diameters of hole to drill/tap into the cartridge for the Durchstich Method: electric drills using bits of 1/16 inch or 7/64 inch size, or a push pin (unknown diameter or brand). The instructions on Druckerchannel.de for the Durchstich Method (http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=1830&seite=4&t=step_1_open_the_cartridge) use a 2 mm drill bit to make the hole. This is equal to 0.07873992 inch or approximately 5/64 inch (0.078125 inch) drill bit.

Incidentally, Druckenchannel.de recommends a 2 mm bore hole on TOP of the cartridge above the spongeless side for the standard/historical method of refilling cartridges. Your choice on how to seal this top hole -- screw +/- O-ring or hot wax.

The drill bit you use depends on the gauge of the needles you have (duh). I used a 1/16th" bit with Jensen Luer-lock needles. It is about twice as large as it needs to be but who cares? I really don't know what all the fuss is about; why on earth would you want SHARPS? They serve no purpose other than to prick yourself if you get careless when refilling your carts. Blunt tip needles pierce the sponge easily. No need for sewing needles etc. And you don't need 3" needles; mine are 2" and are more than long enough. Just don't skimp on the tip caps; they keep the leftover ink in the syringe from leaking out when you disassemble the syringe & needle for storage. I even prefill the syringes with a dose of ink and store them full. Then I pop off the cap, pop on the needle, refill, suck out more ink, pop off the needle, pop on the tip cap, & put away for the next use. A bag of 10 syringes & a box of 50 needles will outlast your printer

Why not cap the needle while still on the syringe and store versus removing needle and putting on a syringe tip cap? Do the needles from jensenglobal.com come without caps?

I've looked at the plastic squeeze bottles with Luer Lock caps from howardelectronics.com as an alternative for storage and injection of ink into the cartridge. Since the bottles stand upright, you can leave the capped needles attached inbetween refills.

Anyone with experience with these squeeze bottles?

Needle I Used:

3.5" (90 mm) sharp tip needle from http://www.inkjetsaver.com/tools.html @ $1.00 (can buy any number you want, and they have blunt as well)
It does not need to be this long if you have another source;
looks like it needs to be at least 50mm to reach through sponge chamber and into reservoir chamber

I did not make a hole above sponge cart.

Yes, I have been using the mentioned squeeze bottles for over a year now - based on a recommendation from fellow forum member fotofreek. I am very pleased with the results I get - no more trying to inject ink with a syringe. Never could get ink into a cartridge using a syringe without often making a mess. The procedure using the squeeze bottles is so simple and clean that I have never had the urge to try the German method - why if the method I am using works so well. I was also always concerned about knocking over the regular ink bottles when filling the syringes - no more worries with these bottles.
Actually I do remove the needles between fillings and use a Luer Lock cap to seal the bottles. I then wash out the needles between use. I ordered 1.5 inch long needles - the needles in the bottle packages were only 0.5 inch long - thought that was too short. But I did have to order 50 needles and 100 caps as these were their minimums. I think fotofreek got them to substitute a longer needle in his order, but I couldn't get them to do it for me. So I have a lifetime supply of each - did sell some to another forum member.

Probably just like you normally purge a cartridge.

Drill a hole on top of the spongeless side of the Canon OEM cartridge, purge using Grandad's method, then seal the top hole with a glue gun or whatever method you want.
