Canon tech tells me that when I go away for six months and not use the i960, to prevent clogging upon return, I should remove the cartridges, place them in a plastic freezer bag, seal. Upon return they advise deep cleaning and everything should be ok. Any other suggestions? Does this one seem valid? Thanks.

In addition, you should also remove the print head and put it in a separate plastic bag. Remove as much air from the bad as possible then seal the bag. Store it away with cartridges in another bag. The reason to do this is to prevent ink in the print head from drying out then clogs. Ideally you should try to not remove the cartridges from the print head. But i960 printhead alone will not hold the cartridges in place. If you can find a way to keep the cartridges remaining on the print head it will be more likely to keep the print head from drying out.

Or you can thoroughly flush all the ink inside the print head with water. You really need to get ALL the ink out. If there is no ink in it it should be OK to let it dry out. If you do flush out all the ink then you can keep it in the printer. Just store all ink cartridges in a plastic bag.
