Hi bsanotrun
A defective print head can damage the logic board in the printer, and a damaged logic board can damage a print head. So it is a risky procedure to swap print heads between printers for troubleshooting.
I think this was one of the first times this risk was reported, in this thread by benzinerwin: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3975 and here is a more recent report by ghwellsjr, in this thread: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8571
If you search the forum, you will also find threads about similar print head failures, where a new print head made the printer OK again. The risk that a failed print head has damaged the logic board is just a risk; the logic board might not be damaged by the print head. Maybe the print head from the iP4000R will revive the i865? In that case you could keep it in the i865 and install the new print head in the iP4000R.
In case the known good print head from the iP4000R makes no difference in the i865, I think the logic board in the i865 is damaged, and the print head should not be put back in the iP4000R. The new print head should be installed in the iP4000R instead.
This is a gamble. You risk a used print head and may win a working i865. You decide if you want to gamble.
