What is happening?

(1: Upon startup, the printer spools up for a few seconds before...balking, for lack of a better word, stopping dead what it was doing in it's tracks and displaying the error message.

(2: It used to, whenever it recieves and executes a print job, spin up, pull up a sheet of paper, and once it has drawn the paper past the first set of rollers, balk, stop dead in it's tracks and refuses to go any further. Upon restarting, it shows a 'paper jammed' dialog; when the back cover is opened, however, the paper is only barely visible (less than a milimeter of paper stuck out of the ridge). It poked out so little that only by removing the paper tray was it possible to remove the paper itself.

(3: When paper was fed into the upper tray, it would do literally nothing; after spinning for what appears to be 'X seconds', it immediately halts and displays the error message.

(4: It displays (currently still is) the E015-0000 code on the screen, prompting to turn the printer off and then restart it; however, even after doing it, the issue still persists.

(5: Attempting to initiate Cleaning the Fixing Assembly displays a "Cannot Clean" dialog

What have I tried to try and solve the problem? (and to no avail)

(1: Restarting the printer (no luck)

(2: Unjamming the paper and letting the printer run again (it simply repeats the cycle)

(3: Cleaning all the rollers and letting the printer clean the ITP transfer belts (still no luck)

(4: Using new and fresh paper to prevent jamming (it phamtom jams, not snagging on something)

(5: Dismantling the thing (a loose spring was found in the Development motor gearbox and fixed, to no avail)

I'm at my wit's end as to what to do, and some help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure solenoids and/or springs acting up are not issues since the problem persists even after the loose springs had been put back in place...what do you guys think is the reason?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Is your printer still under warrantee by any chance ?
No, unfortuntely. It was purchased in 2020 on a one-year warranty; said warranty expired in 2021 (T_T)

Hi @Fujisan
Here is what comes up for the error code.
"
  • Code: E015-0000
  • Description:Error in Developing Disengagement Motor
  • Causes:The engine detected an error in the Developing Disengagement Motor.
  • Remedy:1. Check the harnesses/connectors connecting the Developing Disengagement Switch, the Developing Disengagement Solenoid and the Engine Controller PCB. 2. Check that the Developing Disengagement Switch is properly installed. 3. Replace the Developing Disengagement Switch. 4. Replace the Developing Disengagement Solenoid. 5. Replace the Engine Controller PCB."
It sounds pretty involved, yet it sounds like you dug in pretty deep already.
I used to try and fix everything if I could, yet depending on how you value your time vs the cost or repair or replacement, trying to fix it oneself is not always the most economical solution.

Hope the makes sense and maybe is helpful

Yeah, that was what looking up the specific error in question got me; that there was something wrong with the motor.

The connections are definitely not an issue, since if it truly was the printer wouldn't have started in the first place, much less spool up, warm up, and start correcting the cartridges before balking XD. The solenoid had a spring loose, but fixing that one did nothing to fix the problem.

The printer's pretty old already, so replacing parts is not an option for me; spares are rare (in Vietnam at least) and would cost so much that it'd not be worth it. My father had business in the nearby city, so he'll take the printer there with him and have a technician look at it, though I'm not holding out much hope at the moment. Suffice it to say replacing this thing with an inkjet would likely be far cheaper than completely replacing the motor and the transmission that comes with it.

But still, thanks for the reply

If you were thinking of replacing the printer, then have a look at Brother colour lasers, they are more forgiving..
