Hi Everyone! I am having trouble refilling the HP701 cartridge. It has two chambers. 2/3 of the cartridge is just an empty space for liquid ink. The chamber closest to the printhead has a sponge. I think the empty chamber has a small hole at the bottom so that the ink will flow to the sponge in other chamber. It also has air vents near the top rim of the blue cover where the ink is. The problem is instructions say to make a hole in the middle left portion of the cover and inject the ink. This hole goes into the empty ink chamber. I did this and I also tried injecting directly into the sponge but the ink still not flow out of the printhead bottom.

Also when you tilt the cartridge the ink comes out of the air vents. the fax machine also does not recognize that you already put a cartridge into the fax machine. If I use a new full cartridge I don't get this problem.

So my question is, what the correct way to refill the ink and where do I punch the hole? 2nd question is how do I get the fax machine to recognize that that cartridge has been installed. Even if I tell the fax machine that I installed a "used" instead of "new" cartridge, it still does not recognize it and keeps insisting that I install a cartridge.

Please help.

Thank you.

You have very badly overfilled this cartridge. I don't know what other mistakes you may have made. You may also have failed to plug the hole that you drilled. (This MUST be plugged absolutely air tight.) You also need to make sure the vent is clear, and that there is no dried ink in there.

Don't even consider using this cartridge until you have situation under control. If the cartridge leaks in the printer, you could also ruin the other cartridges and make a mess of the printer.

Read this post, and also Mikling's reply below it. That is the method you should use.

Hmm. That doesn't look like the kind of cartridge I thought you described.

Me too, the way that dianecty explained it I taught it was a single colour cartridge and not a Tri cartridge ? :idunno

Maybe it's a black cartridge. I didn't notice the "color" stamp on that image and on HP's website I could only
find 701 black.

Still, it's an interesting design if it has two chambers for one color and I, for one, would like to see it opened. :)

I think it might be designed the same way as this standard HP 901 black. The empty space contains just air.: http://freedomtoprint.com/2010/07/1...rtridgesscc653a-black-inkjet-print-cartridge/

An XL version of the HP 701 cartridge may be much better for refill. I was also confused by the description of the HP 701 cartridge and thought it might be like the HP 364/564 single ink tanks, My google search for HP 701 found the same cartridges as Tudor found.

I loved how you laid out the actions. At times all seems so intimidating but somehow we find out. Many thanks for this info.

Im from the UK, and here we see Samsung M40 and M41 fax cartridges, exactly like this one.
You just refill the sponge and ignore the empty chamber if there is one.
