HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Auto Reset Chip

Hello,

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911a with the latest firmware, that just yesterday depleted some color cartridges.

After great research I found a viable solution and apparently reliable refill kit from Octopus Germany, but with great disappointment I discovered that the replacement cartridges chips have a limited capacity in the number of page that they can print ! (1000 pages for black and 700 for each color).

Can someone please tell me if there are any third party chips that can be reliably used with this printer ?

I have found many auto reset chip on Alibaba, but I have found no opinions on them.

Hi @glprint and welcome.

You seem to have done most of the leg work yourself with finding the Octopus refill kit, so what exactly is wrong with them.

They supplied you with 8 chips which is enough to get you back printing for a long time and if you keep your old OEM chips they may well work again after you have used up the 3rd party chips.

All 3rd party chips come from China including the ones that the Octopus site sells and buying from Alibaba is as safe as buying from anywhere else including Octopus.

There are two types of 3rd party chips, the ones that Octopus sells are what’s known as one time chips and the other type are called ARC chips, if you check the Alibaba site again you might find that they don’t sell the ARC type chips at all.

There's nothing wrong with Octopus, but I'd prefer to have a chip that do not expire. Being a novice of the refill field, I prefer to ask if the chips found on Alibaba are all the same or if there are some models/brand that are best suited for the task.

Some HP OEM chips contain an expiration date. After that date the printer refuses to print using the expired cartridge. Maybe the aftermarket chips also need this date code to function?

The use ARC chips on an opaque cartridge can be a bit dodgy because you can’t see how much ink is left inside them, so that has to be considered also when using them.

What I said regarding Alibaba and Octopus was that they are both excellent places to order your products from but you need to be aware that the Xiamen Digital Technology Company in China only sells these chips in batches of 30 sets.. !

What leave me perplexed is the fact that many "compatible" cartridges found on Amazon have a very bad rating/opinion, and I guess that these compatible cartridges have some of the cheap chips ...

For those of you living in the USA or Canada, have a look at www.inkproducts.com . Tom, at this store, has a lot of stuff including new COC smart chips, that he claims are better than ARC chips, will last forever. I trust inkproducts more than Amazon or E-Bay for this type of equipment. He could probably ship overseas. Inkproducts is already known by members of Printerknowledge.

Are the 8600 cartridges the type that will allow you to swap between two sets of cartrdges?

Had I known that HP Officejet All-in-one 8610 printers will not function without all cartridges being replaced once depleted, I would have NEVER purchased this printer! I bought the black ink refill cartridge ($40) ... thinking once it was replaced I would be back in business (with gray scale printing) just to discover the printer requires all empty cartridges be replaced to restore printing capabilities. I'm so aggravated with this product I intend to sale or pawn this printer and buy one that allows for plain-old black and white printing when needed.

@MoonScholar, all inkjets are the same, AIO’s or not, they each need the cartridges to have some ink in them to function properly, so if you just want to print in Mono then the simplest answer is to use a laser printer, they are the real kings for B&W printing...
