I don't give up searching for information about ink fading............and came across this report - it does not deal with longevity but with issues with 3rd party cartridges and refill inks for several HP printers - in North America, it's quite an extensive test they did, and HP paid for it. Going through it I don't have a reason to question its credibility . The question is whether the situation is overall similar in Europe ?

Their report does look genuine, but quite a bit bios, I mean if I say I loved apples then an orange would always lose out, because they are a bit more difficult to handle and eat, plus they have a tendency to leak too..

Hmmm. The test was paid for by HP. It doesn't mean that refill materials that you purchase of good quality will produce defective results. I wouldn't want to generalize from that study.

I haven't encountered any of those problems, but I have saved thousands of dollars by refilling, although it came with considerable effort. I've also got high quality printing. Although the longevity of the ink is not up to the OEM, and color balance isn't quite as good, I have gotten excellent results. I can't recommend it for everyone, but I have definitely come out way ahead.

This reminds me of the times I refilled Canon consumer printers with dye ink (the same category I suppose as the tested HP products). Both brands have the same printhead technology too.

I managed with a lot of trial and error to maintain some printers for some time, and the average layman most probably gave up earlier. Yes, most refill inks - and the difficulty to correctly refill the carts - ruin printheads.

Together with the very bad fading resistance it made me switch to (higher quality) pigment printers, where it took me again several years to find everything out.

IMO the report contains a lot of truth, nevertheless the refill industry had sufficient impact on the sale of genuine inks to force the manufacturers into ink tank printers.
