I'm about to flush a number of CLI/PGI 526/525 catridges for future use. What is the best way to store them after drying?

Attach the orange clip?
Cover the refill hole (top filling)?
Cover the air vents?
Leave everything open?

Or should I refill the carts right away and store them with ink in it?

Thanks for your advice.

Attach the orange clip? YES.
Cover the refill hole (top filling)? No need.
Cover the air vents? No.
Leave everything open? No.

Not unless you going to use them in the very near future..

Thanks for your advice.

As far as I experienced the orange clip of these cartridges has to be broken off and can't be attached firmly again.

I replaced it by a rubber band cut from a bike inner tube.
Since the rubber is stretched firmly over the border rim of the outlet, I suppose this will seal as well.
It also covers the air vents.

I also sealed this way the empty cartridges I got without clips to avoid drying of the sponges.
Will see how this behaves over time.

I also use and recommend these storage clips from Octoinkjet. Note that there are four different types. Also note the instruction for attaching the clips. The locking tab on the cartridge is slid through the rectangular opening on the clip.

The Canon OEM clips can also be used for sealing the outlet by attaching it to the cartridge using strong rubber bands. To make sure you get a good seal, you should trim away the remnants of the welding joints holding the clip in place on the cartridge, like this:
