One should also consider the make up of the IPA, some of it being a lower percentage of alcohol and may not be just as suitable for the head treatment.

Mine is supposedly 97% :) Hic Hic :D

Probably not that big a deal. The IPA helps move ink out of the print head and helps provide an initial barrier to microbial growth. The glycol component of pharmacist's solution provides long term microbial defense. If you are worried, and I would not be as long as the IPA is at least 60-70% concentration, the chosen IPA of of any strength can be compensated by using more IPA per unit volume and less distilled water per unit volume in the final mix such that the final concentration is an amount you prefer.

Pharmacist's solution:

-20% isopropanol
-20% propylene glycol
-distilled water up to 100 %

Note: no concentration of IPA is mentioned by pharmacist.

NB: One may even potentiate degradation of print head plastics if a solution is too concentrated in IPA. Pharmacist had his reasons for using distilled water as the primary component and not IPA or propylene glycol. I'm sure Canon has similar considerations as well.

I don’t use any liquid in my print heads, I do however make sure it’s completely dry before I wrap it up, but I do use a couple of drops of Pharmacists solution before reinstalling it.

That works for me.. :)

Price/l is not outrageous, my home-made pharmacist solution costs 3-4 €/l.

When Canon, Epson etc deliver new printheads with a preservation solution, why should we risk to stock ours dry ?
