And without @The Hat 's tremendous effort mastering this printer and advising people the PRO-1 would have been even more problematic.

But I've grown attached 🥰 So .. wanna try to save it, if I can .. I do though have the 10s on order, as we speak it's winging its way to me. Canon offered a 30% discount so made the hit a little less painful :) I would like to at least try, If its just a complete waste of time I'll try to flog it for parts ...

From the original release information:

"The thermal inkjet heads are a SEMI-PERMANENT part of the printer ..."

The only Canon printer I know without a user replaceable printhead.
A printhead change every 2-3 years must be taken into account when buying a Canon printer.
For the trendy photographers in Canon marketing video's this doesn't cost more than a set of cartridges, but most refillers see this as a mountain high charge.

When I met Canon people on a CPS meeting I asked what would be the best printer for me: the PRO-10 or the PRO-1000.
The answer was short and clear: "It depends on your volume". "And don't forget, a PRO-1000 printhead costs € 400" (but IS user replaceable).

Compared to the actual model PRO-1000 (A2, 80ml cartridges), the PRO-1 (A3+, 36ml) does not have much advantage over the lowly no-nonsense PRO-10 (unless you print B/W maybe).

PS: I was attached to my PRO-9500's too, but they are obsolete and I forced myself to switch to the PRO-10.
I find it more rewarding to spend time and money in optimising the price/performance of this printer than spend it on a vintage one (although most can be shared).

It is a hobby.

To me it looks like the head has suffered partial electrical failure in the Matte black and all but light grey, Grey, Photo blue, Photo magenta and Yellow and having issues also.

You’ll have to get a replacement head to be sure of continued good quality prints, because this print head cannot be removed and cleaned without suffering a 35% loss of inks in all your carts, so I recommend you cut your losses and go for the new head and forget about cleaning.

The better option is the Pro 10 at this stage and you can use your remaining Pro 1 inks in the Pro 10, because a new head and a set of new carts will set you back the price of the Pro 10, my conclusion is you have a very big printer to get rid of, there are no useful parts that you can sell.. But I will send you the instructions for all the good it will do..

I wouldn’t call the Pro10 a downgrade from a Pro-1. The Pro-10/10s are rarely problematic, much friendlier to deal with and less prone to those ’fits’ of revenge so typical of the Pro-1, if the unaware user mistreats a bit the machine.
You have only to browse this forum and count the number of threads where users ask advice or help for their Pro-1 and compare it with the number of threads about ‘sick’ Pro-10s.
The Pro 10 is a huge step down from the Pro 1 and the reason why it’s more troublesome is simple, it needs to be used daily (That’s everyday) for trouble free running, it differs from the Pro 10 in that it uses a pressurised ink system.

The Pro 10 is a home user printer whereas the Pro 1 a professional printer for top class prints and only commercial houses can really see the difference in its output, it’s small I’ll grant you that but if you’re paying for top quality prints then you expect the best..

The Pro 1 costs far more to run than a Pro 10 does by a country mile and deep pocket are needed to keep in the luxury it expects, and the prints from it are usually very expensive to buy..

A home used would want to be crazy to run a Pro 1, it’s a real drunkard, but fails in comparison to its bigger sister The Pro 1000… Splash the cash..

You’re right about the intended use for the Pro1 vs Pro10/100 and, image wise, the extra gray inks give it a plus over the Pro10, no contest. Nevertheless, I still think that the Pro1 is too troublesome. Small businesses need a reliable machine capable of running longtime without problems, Fussy machines aren’t welcome. IMHO the Pro1 is a great but unfinished design; like a beta version of the Pro1000, which is everything the Pro1 should have been in the beginning.

I never had an issue using my Pro 1, (Business use only) it did the job the best way it could and it never clogged or failed me once, the one thing it was…Was very reliable, OEM inks were never used because of cost.. O’ and the Pro 1000 is an even bigger nightmare for home users that don’t use it regularly.. But you do get beautiful Prints.. O' the costs..:barnie
I would never recommend a Pro 1 to anyone, but I would a Pro 9500 ll or Pro 10…. :thumbsup

That you operated such a delicate printer with 3th party ink all these years, and that apparently the inks are the same as the PRO-10, encourages me.

Strange that on Tasktron's site the PRO-1 is marked "discontinued by Canon", while on the official Canon site it is still present.
