How often should I use a Canon inkjet to ensure nozzles don't become clogged?

Ok, you guys are the real experts on this stuff so I will try a follow up question.

When I print photos using the standard Windows 10 menu, a large black stripe appears obscuring most of the centre of the photo. However, when I use a Canon photo print app, they come out fine. Is this a hardware or software issue?

Software, last Windows 10 updates cause this effect, delete them.

You are correct but it would be more helpful if you detail exactly which update or other workaround would be helpful (eg Windows restore point or back up restoration). Fortunately, Microsoft appears to have an update fix so you do not have to manually delete.

@dublin123

Yes, a Windows 10 update appeared to create this problem.

https://www.windowslatest.com/2021/03/18/windows-10-march-and-hotfix-updates-have-issues/

Microsoft rapidly created and offered a fix in a subsequent update as reported by forum member @PeterBJ

If this update (KB5001649) does not appear in your Windows Updates / Optional Updates Available then you can download the appropriate version at

Hi Statman,

Thanks for this. I couldn't seem to download those (from the last link). I can manage without as for me the bug only seems to affect printing from the built-in Windows app.

What happened? You are using Windows 10, right?

Maybe the page I linked can only be downloaded in North America. Maybe Microsoft was having a server issue. You could do a Google search for KB5001649 which would link to a more country specific server.

I would think that MS will push the update KB5001649 to you sooner or later. It may already be there in your Updates in the Optional area.

It is saying 'can't be downloaded securely'. I can do without it for the time being.
