If ON is best all the time then thats what I'll do, certainly do not mind it using a little ink if it avoids clogs and deep cleans.
That's exactly right. A power-up does a heavy bit of cleaning and isa huge waste of ink ... and it doesn't matter if it's wasting the more-expensive-than-human-blood OEM ink or the quality-but-cheap refill inks : wasted ink is still wasted ink.

Inkjet printers "waste" ink as a preventative measure to avoid clogging. I'm certain that they err of the side of safety, and that does cost the consumer (and enrich the vendor) ink( = $). Back to my analogy with oil change intervals for a car. You can either call it "wasting oil" for following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, or you can regard it as valuable preventative maintenance. My reference to cost really has no bearing on the discussion except for the fact that this sort of preventative maintenance costs a few cents with aftermarket inks, and this makes the process much less financially painful. In the realm of one tenth the cost or less when compared with OEM ink.

On the other hand, your reference to human blood raises a different issue. aftermarket ink costs pennies, OEM ink costs dollars, human blood is a priceless commodity!

Except --- it is not readily available except by human donation, whereas most commodities are avialable for a price. Most communities are chronically short of blood for emergencies or even routine surgical needs. You can't just build another factory to create more.
