I have bought non OEM cartridges and replaced the OEM chip from the previous cartridge but my printer will not recognize the new cartridge with added chip. I KNOW I can over ride this as I did it once before but I can't remember how.

Please help me by telling me how to get my printer to ignore the OEM information so I can print an urgent document - it must be done tonight and the office stores are all closed!

Thank you for replying. Yes I put the correct colour chip on each replacement cartridge.

What I really wanted to know was how to overrule the OEM chip. I did this with the larger black cartridge some months back but now can not remember how it was done or who told me how to do it!!! Frustrating for I KNOW the printer worked without a chip in the black cartidge for it was overruled. I had a dialogue box that asked me if I wanted to disable some kind of mechanism - probably the one that recognised the OEM chip but now I just can not find out how I did this and nor can I work out how to do it again. I have clicked practically every button there is to click but can not find the way in or the dialogue box.

lgreen; Im having the same problem as you. My printer IP5300 uses the same cartridges as yours and It refuses to work with "used-up" chips. I have heard that when the orange LED flashes you can press and hold the RESET buttom for 5+ seconds and there by disable the counter in the chip. BUT THAT DOS NOT WORK FOR ME! please try that and see if you have any luck.

Or...you can use the new chipped compatibles from Atlantic Inkjet, which include a reset chip, and show ink levels. My customers are very happy with them.

What will happen once these cartridges are out of ink? Are they refillable? If they are refillable will ink level status be disabled?

Thank you for your help and advice. The orange light stayed flashing and so the printer would not print. The only message I got was the printer did not recognise the cartridge or something like that. I 'solved' the issue by buying a new canon cartirdge as I desperately needed to print a document. Any more ideas? I still have unchipped cartridges to use......

Possible problems:

1) Wrong chip on cartridge.

2) Chip not properly aligned or fitted.

3) Chip malfunction from either from mishandling (damaged contacts or tracings on the chip) or manufacturing.

4) Bad aftermarket cartridge.

5) Problem with printer itself.

You need to post the specific and entire error message. Oftentimes there is a specific error code number given.
