In fact: he is the only and solely seller of Hobbicolors UW-8 ink. I do not know what the origin of the ink is, but it is really a great ink and also very good light fastness, which I think is between Canon's BCI-6 and CLI-8 ink, which is pretty good achievement for a aftermarket ink.

Best ink for bucks you will find. Unfortunately the $ dollar exchange rate is making it more expensive in the UK. However if you live in the USA you won't find anything better for the price. As stated Ebay is the place to get it.

I have three questions regarding Hobbicolors ink:

(1) How is it, with all the inquiring minds out there in Nifty-Stuff Ink Forum Land, that no one can figure out the origin of the Hobbicolors ink?

(2) Whoever the manufacturer is, you would think that someone else would also be selling the ink. If so, who?

(3) Does anyone else think that the postage expense for the Hobbicolors ink is a tad high? About 25% of the cost of an order is shipping. This varies somewhat depending on the order.

A brand name costs a lot of money in marketing to establish. Cost of ink with a well established brand name will be higher. This is really the reason why the price is always higher when you buy gas from Shell gas stations than from a off brand gas station although the gas are probably from a same oil refinery. Although I do not know if Hobbicolors inks are available from other sellers but I believe their price would be higher if their ink carries an established brand name tag. Have anyone ever heard of anything that may suggest what the name is on that tag? Or perhaps the ink is really made by a unknown manufacturer that has the technology to make high quality inks.

I would think that the seller on EBay came up with the Hobbicolors name, not the manufacturer. Therefore, if anyone else was selling the same ink, it wouldn't have the Hobbicolors name.

Many of the comments I have read about Hobbicolors ink is that it is noticeably more vibrant. It would seem that this might be a clue in matching it up with another seller. What other seller sells ink that is as vibrant as Hobbicolors? It difficult for me to believe that Dave is the only person selling that particular formulated ink.

The reason I would be looking for another seller is that I buy ink in larger bottle sizes (usually pint bottles) which aren't available on Dave's EBay site. I wish that he would offer this size. It would be more economical, especially when factoring in postage costs, and would be more green in that significantly less packaging would be involved.

I don't think Hobbicolors shipping charge is high. They charge only the postage for shipping, sometimes less. It is the postal service that is getting your shipping money, not Hobbicolors. There is a way around it. US postal service provides flat rate shipping services. Here is a USPS pricing guide:
http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-mail-prices.htm

The best strategy is to order large quantity of ink and take the advantage of shipping by US postal flat rate boxes. You can see that a large flat rate box will cost only $12.95, a smaller flat rate box $9.80. I believe Hobbicolors offers flat rate shipping for large orders using these flat rate boxes. These are the best you can get for buying large quantity of ink. Ink is as heavy as water. If you buy ink in pints the large flat rate box has a lot of capacity for a lot of ink. The postage tops at $12.95 or $9.80. You can order as much ink until those boxes are full.

But if you are outside of USA that will be a difference story. I think the postage for the same flat rate boxes are way up. I don't know if there is a way to get around it. I have never seen postage from USPS going down. The recent decline of oil price will not translate into lower postage. I think US postage rate will go up again next year. It is unstopable. A few days ago I had to drive 60 miles to pick up some stuff I bought online to save almost $20 of shipping. I thought I saved but when I was crossing an intersection I was a little too slow to pass through. Before I crossed the line on the other side of the intersection the traffic light turned red. Then I heard a click and a flash light went off. I was photographed. Man, I tell you, that's probably a few hundred dollars of fine. Well, I can only wait and see what's coming out of this. If they send me a ticket I probably will fight in the court. I was in a neighborhood that I had never been to. How can they give me a ticket for drinving slowly through an intersection?

Oh, well. Expensive shipping is the way it is these days. Trying to pick up yourself? You will need some luck too. Anyone know if I may have a chance to fight a ticket like that in court? By the way, I really love Hobbicolors inks. The colors are fabulous. You will love it when you try it.

I for one don't believe that the shipping costs for Hobbicolors inks are that high considering the weight of liquids. Even a postage cost of 25% of the order is relatively small considering the very reasonable costs of the ink. He packs the inks very well in my opinion. As far as ordering larger bottles of ink - have you sent him a request for the larger amounts? If not, use the "Ask the Seller a Question" link on his E-Bay page. I always e-mail him my ink request and he sends me an invoice directly that I pay using Paypal.

Well I thing it's because "the light turned red".
Don't know your driving rules, but in general if you are sure you entered the intersection on green light you should be OK. It does not matter if light turned red if you were exiting. At least at my local driving law.
