I have the service manual for this, but it isn't much help. It says to move the right hinge to the right while pulling up on the scanner but it is not coming out. I'm scared I'll break something if I try to pry on it. BTW, I'm trying to fix a 6A00 error. Anything else I should clean besides the printhead rest pad area when I finally get the top off of this thing? Any other tips?

Thanks!

The MX850 looks mechanically similar to the MP830 and MP780, so instructions for disassembling these printers might also be useful for disassembling the MX850. @jimbo123 disassembled his MP830 to change the ink absorbers and made a description with photos here. You should also check out the druckerchannel links in the post by jimbo123.

removing the scanner can be done by following the service manual. takes a bit of muscle the first time.

below are 2 pics that might help to see the lift and twist that is needed

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Active Printers: MP830, MP980, PRO-100
• Stored Printers: MP830, IP4500, MX700, MX860, MX870
• Method: German Durchstich Method
• Ink: Hobbicolors and OCP
• Misc: Squeeze bottles - so much easier than syringes

FYI, i caught a 6A00 on my first MP830 6 years ago, was never able to resolve it.

before you begin surgery on your printer, you might want to try some less invasive tactics, see below for some ideas

I don't think my scanner lifts straight up like that. I'll try it again. Is it necessary to start on the right side first?

Well she's back in business! I think the rights side is better to release first. I used a large screwdriver to pry the hinge apart. Thanks for the help guys.

so does that mean back in business printing or that you've had success taking the scanner off ?
