I have to do a head clean every time I use the printer or it doesn't print correctly. Then after say 10 prints I need to do another head clean. Is this a common problem.
Thanks.

No, which printer is affected ,

which color is affected ? Are you using Epson inks or from another company ?
Hi. It affects all colours but I am using compatible inks which I have always used and this problem has only recently started.

If some pigment ink residue is building up slowly it takes a while until the problems become visible for the user. The pigment ink could be the culprit, and since regular cleanings don't help anymore you one way or another have to do a thorough printhead flushing, there are plenty of Youtube videos showing how to do that like this one

I bought a printhead cleaning kit and flushed them out as shown in the video. Printed a document out this morning which was fine. Just tried another one and I get an error message with the code E-01. Checked for paper jams but all ok. Any help greatly appreciated.

This is what epson tells me about this error code

https://download4.epson.biz/sec_pub...GUID-5843B669-0A74-4369-ACF5-F2D5626A2E53.htm

It's difficult at tlhis point to troubleshoot further since I'm not in front of the unit to try this or that.
You may try and download the WicReset utility and do a status report, this gives a short explanation of the error code which might be more helpful and point to the problem.
