Sorry to hear about your mainboard. Sounds like your extruder's stepper driver burned out. Was the printer doing lots of retractions? That can do it.

You might want to check your mainboard cooling. Sometimes the airflow across the board is blocked by the way wires are routed.

You might also want to check the stepper voltage pots on the old mainboard in case the new one isn't set up properly. They should probable be in the 0.9v to 1.0v range, but don't quote me. The mainboard on my printer (a red melzi board) came completely unconfigured.

@berttheghost, That might be the cause of it all right, I had it running more than 8 hours with a lot of retraction, I had several pieces on the bed at the one time...
Thank you...:thumbsup

Grey Lady Down - love submarine movies! This one had the late, great Charlton Heston.

@The Hat , what a bummer! I'm impressed with the trouble-shooting steps you've already undertaken!

8 weeks!?! Ugh, that's got to be frustrating! Where did you get it? Were there other options, or was that the only source?

I'll cross my fingers that you'll stumble on the problem and be able to fix it way sooner than that! :fl

My timing is always perfect, right at the start of the Chinese New Year, Woof, Woof, so they wont ship till after the 26th, and then it takes 21 days to clear their customs and onto a flight Via Germany.

But our Customs here sit on most things for 28 days before making any decisions, Feckin typical public servants, I reckon most countries may operate much the same.

The other option was to purchase from the US, that would take 3 to 4 weeks, (Customs again), but the same boards are twice the price there, and courier charges @$55 all add up before the revenue get their grubby hands on it.

The Customs have a field day, they calculate 25% Vat on item purchased, plus 25% Vat on courier charge, plus a handling charge, for something I can get for ¼ the price by waiting, I reckon I’d rather wait, its less painful...

All things considered, the US Postal Service is quite good if not excellent.

Most if not all companies’ in the US use International couriers to transport goods across the Atlantic, in a perfect world I would choose USPS every time, because its cheaper and there is no VAT to be paid most of the time, when I inquire, I’m told it must be a courier... :barnie

Even the USPS uses private parcel services (UPS?) within the US to make USPS deliveries. I still find it amazing that for $0.49 I can send private communications from one side of the country to the other delivered to the mailbox of the recipient in 2-3 days. I'd wait longer if they would bring back the awesome Pony Express. :D
