I need a recommendation for a reliable printer i can get for the lowest price.I do not need it for anything big i dont need it to exceed expectations etc.

All i need is to print coloured documents.Word, pdf, excel mostly, that have coloured fonts,or maybe pictures attched and stuff.

I already have a laser printer for use for b&w documents but when i need to print coloured ones i have to do it in an external print shop, and this has to stop!

What i'm thinking is an hp deskjet or a canon pixma, maybe even an epson stylus if it's worth it.Remember all i want it to do is get the job done,no excellent qualities and such.

So far i've come up with these 3

HP DESKJET D2460 CB611A
EPSON STYLUS D92
CANON PIXMA IP2500

So what'ya say?

It's better to choose a printer with separate cartridges per colour to diminish ink spill. The Canon Pixma IP3300 might be a better choice for you. The ones you mentioned all use combined 3-colour carts, which is very uneconomical and only contains about less than twice the amount of ink per colour compared to the PGI-5Bk/CLI-8 cartridges in the IP3300 for about the same price per cartridgeset.

Also i need a scanner as well.Should i go seperate getting the lide 600f or combine printer/scanner with CANON PIXMA MP160.

If i go seperate is there any significant difference between IP2500 and IP3300 cause first is cheaper.

Thanx for your help.

MP160 gets you back to a tri-color and high OEM ink costs.
Not recommended.
I dislike hydras (AIO's). You will not get a good (if there is one) AIO at the entry level.
Many folks are buying AIO's which creates a good supply of some very good used scanners.

Just go to the Canon website and use their comparison tool.
You can compare different models side-by-side.
Click on "Accessories" to view which ink tanks are used.
I have a hunch that iP2500 uses a tri-color cart.

Also, if you choose to go separate, troubleshooting is sooo much easier and less apt to be needed. :)

CANON PIXMA IP2500: PG-37, CL-38.
vs.
CANON PIXMA IP3300: PGI-5BK, CLI-8C, CLI-8M & CLI-8Y

I think it means a tricolour for IP2500,right?

So i guess i'll go for IP3300 for printer and the canon lide 600f scanner, unless someone has any additional recommendation?

Also by troubleshooting what do you mean?

Ok so i did place my order online for the IP3300 due to the cartridge recommendation, and after a couple of weeks i guess i'll order my scanner as well, which as i have stated will most likely be lide 600f.

Thanx guys you've been useful.

You'll be happy with iP3300. I use iP3000, its parent and it is a Hall-of-Famer, IMO.
Direct-prints CD/DVD's too.
Don't have any experience with Canon scanners.

Fixing them....making them work.
With an AIO, you've got so many things going on in one device, it can make troubleshooting a real challenge.

In the industry right now we have a new OS (Vista) and everyone and his brother are buying AIO's.
Many of the Vista drivers are not up to speed and couple that with a complex device like an AIO and you can guess how miserable things can get.

From what I have seen, Canon Vista drivers have been the most trouble-free while Dell/Lexmark Vista drivers have been the worst.

I'm confused!

I'm doing my research before buying a printer and reading lots of threads.

I was contemplating buying the EPSON STYLUS D92 but you say it doesn't come with separate colour catridges.

But everywhere I look says different. Unless I'm getting my terminology wrong :/

it takes these cartidges, no? Which are separate and not all in one catridge like say a HP23.
(CYAN + MAGENTA + YELLOW)
Epson T071220, T071320, T071420

also, if I can find one, I'd probably take yours [i think] advice and buy a iP3000. Are there any ciss systems which are compatible with them?

My hp720 finally died after about a decade. it was awesome, even for photos. But I want something that's easy to refill and is fairly cheap to run

edit:
aparently so re: the ciss for the canon ip3000
