good buys on ebay

Hi All,

finding some good buys on ebay for canon paper for my printer, I'm having to put some effort in to find bargains as living in Canada we're subject to unexplainable price hikes on inkjet consumables, if anyone has any advice on finding a "fair price" please give me your 2cents/pence worth!

Have you tried Costco for glossy paper? 150 sheets 8.5x11 for 20$ Also, Staples often have "buy 1, get 1" type of deals... A couple of weeks ago, I got two 50 packs (8.5x11 again) of Epson Premium Heavyweight matte paper for 17$, the canon matte paper was 15$ for 2 packs. For ink, Precision Colors is located in Canada.. Hobbicolors is in the US, but ships here for pretty cheap.

Funny you should mention staples, I got the bogo deal a few weeks back with 4x6 canon glossy paper, the standard stuff. I don't currently have a costco membership and a friend of mine who had one moved up north.. do you find their paper ok in use? Took delivery of a precision colors kit yesterday, its an awesome package. The ebay haven't turned out too well as they are using a company that they don't take any responsibility for, to impose import charges and brokerage fees, the fine print is entertaining as well, chopped right into the savings I had made at checkout...

The Kirkland paper performs well above it's price point. Here in Quebec, it's only available in 8.5x11 but maybe you'll find 4x6 where you are. What printer are you using?

edit: I just had a look at the staples flyer for next week (starts tomorrow), they'll have 2 for 1 deals on HP or Epson paper. I haven't checked the prices, but if you don't have a costco membership, this might be the best deal for you right now.

Yeah my canon printer can use 8.5x11, its a canon MG6220 ink guzzler, I have precision colours image specialists ink at the ready but not yet in the printer and I've read on here that canon oem ink doesn't play well with "non" canon papers but its most likely fine with IS inks?

A year ago I bought two Pixma 3600 very cheaply, from a discount supermarket. I had both Canon OEM paper and the Sihl glossy paper, that is very popular in Europe, so I had the chance do do some comparison tests. Both Canon OEM ink and IS refill ink produced very nice and very similar prints on both the Canon OEM paper PR-101, PP-101, and PP-201 and the Sihl glossy 280 gsm paper, sold by Aldi and Lidl.

I also tested a Pixma 5200 with IS inks on Canon and Sihl paper. Results were also very similar.

Even with Canon inks and Canon paper there is a slight magenta cast, which you only notice on B/W prints or when printing greyscales. This is typical of many (all?) Canon inkjet printers.

I am not a professional photographer nor do I own colorimetric equipment, but my colour vision is 100% normal.

So I will say that Canon printers also work well with non-OEM ink and non-OEM paper, if the ink and paper are good quality, as are the IS ink and the Sihl paper. I don't know which paper to recommend in the US.

Hey Peter,

Yes I hear you about the magenta cast, I noticed this and it was fixed by using the profile in photoshopp for my printer and the canon paper I used, I was amazed with the difference, the colours where very accurate. Though I do find the provided manipulation/workflow software that came with the printer easier to use...but you then have the magenta cast...
