I've seen posted here some good advice about getting a profile made for the new non OEM inks we will start using to get good results. I think I've read here that we can get a profile made for about $20
so I just did a search down here in Australia & the average price for a profile to be made is $70. You would think from the prices we pay for printers & now getting profiles made that we're a nation of millionaires:)
I will be going on to non OEM inks as soon as my OEM inks get really low & I'm now searching for somewhere to get some profiles made for when I'm up & running with my new inks. Can anyone guide me to a good source
for custom profiles at the reasonable costs I've seen posted here. My printer is the pro9000mk2.
Thanks.
Regards Rod

Take a look at http://www.cathysprofiles.com/ for a less expensive alternative for profiling. I've not used Cathy's Profiles but have read about them from others and she seems reasonable. Maybe she or someone here will already have a profile for your ink, paper, and printer combo. This would simplify the process and maybe save you some money.

What will you be using for ink and paper?

Thanks for the link Stratman & I will be using my new Canon pro9000mk2 & I think I've narrowed the ink down to Precision colours to refill the OEM cartridges.
The papers I've bought to start off with are Canons A3 Photo paper plus semi gloss & their A3+ Fine art premium matte both in my affordable range, the papers cost an arm & a leg down here in Australia & it's too expensive to ship them from the States. I will also get some Photo paper pro gloss.

Have a look at this link - http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5539. You should consider messaging Mikling about his Precision Colors ink from Image Specialists and profile questions with the ink he sells out of Canada on eBay. Fantastic ink. Great service. Dependable guy.

Alternative MIS inks from another great Nifty-Stuff member out of the UK at Octoinkjet.co.uk.

Thanks again Stratman, so I have to pick between a Pom & a Canuck a:) Yes I have visited both places & found them both very helpful. I might have to toss a coin to pick one.
I notice Mikling has a pro9000 so he should be very helpful regarding profiles etc & the postage costs seem reasonable. I don't know why but I'm really looking forwards to refilling my own cartridges, I can't wait to run out of OEM ink:)

Hmmm - Should be no contest! "Canuck" every time. Although we don't play cricket (At least not seriously), and Aussies and Poms don't play "Real Hockey".

I advise against Cathy's profiles as there have been several complaints of late that she is not responding even though her website is still active. I did use her services a couple of years ago with acceptable results.

The link below has been highly recommended by others. Eric Chan is a Colour Scientist at adobe and I have bookmarked him for use should I need better profiles than my Spyder3Print can deliver. His prices are very reasonable as you only have to pay postage to deliver your printed sheets and he emails the profile back. Given his background should know what he is doing. However I have not used his services and your mileage may vary.

Best of luck. I have found these forums the best source of inkjet printing information.

Roy thanks for the link to Eric Chan he seems perfect & I can't get over how cheap he is (maybe I shouldn't say that he will raise his prices). After the help I've received here I feel like I know what I'm doing with using after market inks even though I've yet to do it, mind you this could be dangerous thinking on my part.
I've been printing out A4 shots on my Canon Pixma 5000 for years now without any thought about the printing process or using papers other than Photo paper pro gloss but now with my new pro9000 & using Canons supplied profiles I'm really enjoying using other papers & processing to suit, I feel like I'm doing darkroom work again & I've even started to shoot with the printing process in mind.
Since our cricket team has slid down the rankings we tend not to talk cricket any more so could you please not mention it again otherwise I might start remembering when the Russian team first beat Canada:) I still have my ice hockey stick from when we lived in Toronto for a couple of years way back when Bobby Orr was the king.
