German method: how to pull out the needle WITHOUT getting ink on you!

German method: brilliant, I love it - only thing is that I STILL get ink on my hands!!

This happens when I'm pulling the needle out

I do as is mentioned in the instructions - I keep the pressure on the bottle and only release after pulled out

What am I doing wrong?
I'm pretty sure the problem is holding the pressure

NOW: I use a tissue over the end, so when I pull out, the ink spills on that and not me
(Still managed to get ink on me! Because I didn't use enough tissue!)

I remove the syringe by holding it by its body, not the plunger.

No ink spills out this way.

well the instructions given by the supplier + mentioned elsewhere I've seen, they say you need to squeeze the bottle to insert the ink - but that you should NOT release - else ink is drawn back from the cartridge

does that make any sense?

+ not using syringe - using squeezy bottles - not sure what they're called!

Those are my instructions and you're right there's an element of that as you learn the ropes... I still get a little ink on me as I remove the needle (on a SquEasyFill bottle) but the trick is to stop squeezing just before you remove the needle end from the cartridge. Release a little too soon and you can drain the cartridge sponge somewhat, release too late and you get a little squirt as you're finding.

Like anything there's a little learning curve involved but hopefully the above helps a little with the technique

Yes, I get it now, I would release the pressure when the needle is almost out of the cartridge.

I used the SquEasyFill bottle for the first time last week & didn't know about not releasing the squeeze until the needle was withdrawn. Using the German Method I fill the ink chamber to very nearly full until I have just a small air pocket at the entrance to the sponge chamber, I then withdraw the needle so the very tip is in that air pocket & release the squeeze then withdraw the needle. No ink outside of the cartridge or on my hands so I now refill at my computer desk which is probably a bit daft as accidents can happen a

been using german method with squeeze bottles for nearly 3 years, over 150 refills. this was pre SquEasyFill bottle era, mostly trial and error.

below is what works for me:
- fill to 50%, release squeeze bottle with tip in air pocket
- fill to 80%, release squeeze bottle with tip in air pocket
- fill to 90%, release squeeze bottle with tip in air pocket
- fill to 95%, release squeeze bottle with tip in air pocket

best to leave a little air in there

also note the clumsy attempt to reset cart at end, oh well....

squeeze bottles are so much easier and quicker than syringes

aaah... see, well that makes sense to me
that brings up the question about needing to hold the pressure on the bottle and only release after taking out (or right at the end)

what harm is it if u do release while still inside?
especially if while still in the air bubble?
what harm can be done?

+ if ink is drawn back in - well... what's the harm in that?
if it is drawn back in, it will only be a tiny amount surely?

would be good to hear what u guys say about this

If the amount is tiny, it's probably not an issue. Perhaps you can test (I don't have access to these bottles) and report back to the forum.

But considering jimbo123's experience with the Durchstich method and squeeze bottles I would simply follow his advice without further testing...
