I know some of my fellow members have used Gearbest website to buy 3D printers and other parts. This morning I had an email from Gearbest advising customers to change passwords, in their own words...

"It has come to our attention that hundreds of our users may have been victim of a data breach" Our investigation concludes that it is unlikely that our users information can be leaked from our own system, but what has likely happened is that ill-intentioned people may have successfully accessed and/or hacked internet users data information from other websites and were trying to access Gearbest by using the existing exposed data from other sites.

As far as we know, those hackers have even created special software to facilitate uploading large volumes of leaked data from other sites to try to deceptively login with Gearbest. Any resulting published customer data leaks have happened as a result of this random software. Customers using the same email address and password on several websites are particularly vulnerable to this."

Just wanted to let you all know if you are not already aware, and if you have ever used the same password and email combination for any other site I'd change it ASAP ;)

Stay Safe!

Thanks!

I have used them, but didn't get an email.

This is a GREAT reminder to use different passwords on all sites!!! (especially any financial related)

Yes, Lastpass or a similar manager is worthwhile, as you can have a different password for every site with no need to remember them.

Ditto.

I got frustrated with all the marketing emails from Gearbest and attempted to unsubscribe. It didn't have any effect, but maybe they've just eventually stopped emailing me when there's actually an important email I would have liked to have seen.
