I'm going to try a different vendors refillable inks to use with my present refillable carts.

Is flushing my present carts a matter of taking as much of the old ink out with a syringe. Replacing it with water and then siphon out that water. Doing this until the water is clear that I'm siphoning out OR Is there another way flushing the carts could be done.

Thank you
Andrew

I don't think you can do this at all. Unless you think you can get all the water out, you're going to mess up the viscosity (thickness) of the ink. I always buy clean cartridges if I'm changing inks.

If you do try it, I'd only use distilled water, NO tap water.

You may be right Fenrir. I gotta give it more thought about the syringe and water bit. I was wondering what if I used alcohol instead of water since alcohol evaporates fairly fast if any were left in the cart?

Thanks

I'm not saying do what I did but just for the information here is the experience I had. I was using one brand of dye based inks in an Epson 1400 and decided to switch to another brand of the same type of ink. (CYMK LC LM) 6 dampers with tubing set up.
I was thinking of washing the system with water and refilling but then I thought, I'm going from one dye based ink to another so why not just forget the flush and simply add ink from the new bottles?
My lazy nature won out even though I had no real idea if this was a good move or not! The result was that I didn't even notice any change whatsoever. My system just went along as normal with no bad effects or any effect noticed. Had I been changing from say, dye based to pigment, I'd have gone the flush route but I thought, Dye based to dye based. I'll risk it. As I said, I won't recommend this to anyone else but this is just what I experienced at the time. That was about 3 years ago and I'm still printing with the same printer. Outoftheinkwell!

Thank you for your input. Pigment inks may act a little different than Dye inks.
Thanks again

All of them! LOL
Where were the two brands os dye ink from? I think I know from what seller at least one of them came from and they were from Image Specialists and likely both were from Image Specialist so if so, that's why you saw no defference. Had you gone from IS or CONE to say OPC ( German ) that would not have been the case.

In my case the first brand was from InkRepublic and I switched to InkJetCarts because it was cheaper at $5.50 for 120 mils bottles. Good inks on both, no problems. Outoftheinkwell!

Both may be IS. At least the Inkjetcarts one for sure. And that's why you did not see any difference.

As per my original post as to flushing out my present refillable carts so I can fill them with a different refillable ink. I've come to the conclusion it would be a bad idea, for me anyway. Yesterday I made an attempt to try and empty one of my carts first with a syringe and then just looking what was still in the cart I said to myself forgetaboutit. It would of been a total messy affair and for 9 carts it's not worth it. So the bottom line is if I want to change my ink I'll just buy the whole kit.

I've seen the light
