The first chapter of his article is a great review of inkjet history. The authors used high speed (up to 1 MILLION frames/second) microscopic cameras to study the inkjet process

I can't say that I took the 2 weeks that would be necessary to read and understand everything in this thesis, but it certainly reminds us of how much technology goes into many of the devices that we use every day. If a PhD thesis has this much detail, imagine the detail that the design engineers at the printer companies get into.
