Why Update ?

Over the years I have found that (“IF”) your printer is working safe and normal then you should always ignore any update from the print manufacture..

Furthermore most of the time it’s in the manufacture interest and not the print owners..

Fortunately the ET-8550 is an ecotank printer, so there is no risk of disabled possibility of aftermarket cartridges (chips refused) and other fun. If it would use cartridges and you are using refillables/aftermarket cartridges....watch out for firmware upgrades.

Well, I'm OK with it. Besides, after having owned the 8550 for almost 2 years, I won't go back to a cartridge-based printer.

I think the Epson Et-8550 might be one of the best printers in a generation.

Should Epson release a tank photo printer, I will scoop that one up in a heartbeat.

And what are you missing at the ET-8550 up to a 'real' photoprinter ?
More colors, gradients, gamut, pigment archival capabilities... but you're right, I don't need much more.

The scanning, duplex printing, and document printing capabilities aren't something I would want to give up. The printer is genuinely amazing.
