Thanks, Santer. Will need to wait for the club members meet again in March and decide if a 2nd printer will be purchased. Will check Amazon by then. Good to know that R2880 is still available.
My opinion is that those epson printers with 8 color printhead (DX5) are really easy to maintain regardless if your using oem only, refillable cartriges, ciss or compatible cartriges.
Pigment ink is a nasty stuff, it contains not only pigment. the pigment particels are encapsulated in resin with a solvent, after the solvent dries out these particels stick together and contruct a rather solid resin/pigment based "cover"
I had a trashed epson R1800 (some gear parts of the paper mechanism brooke) and checked the "inside" of the printer : clogs of ink every where perfect for a serious testing
I went from windex to pure isopropanole and various "Epson Inkjet" cleaners that I could find from germany eBay sellers.
High contentraction of ammonia really purges printhead incredibly fast, but my thought was it could also damage the ABS enclosure of it so be carefull.
I own over 5 epson printers that are in daily use and I dont reallly switch them of. Switching it on and off ONCE a day could save you most of the trouble.
I ensure before every printjob that involves anything else then normal A4 letter office paper tha my nozzle are free with an good'ol nozzle check. Since I use a CiS system on my Epson 2100/2200 there could be air bubbles hidding anywhere.
