I got a broken epson printer + a bunch of ink, I plan to just pick up a cheap canon IP1800 (for 20 bucks), and refill with the epson ink, any chance this will work?

Many Epson printers use Durabrite ink which is pigment based. However, many suppliers of inks for Epson Durabrite printers use dye based ink. I believe the color cartridge for the iP1800 uses dye inks so you have to determine if the ink you have is dye based or pigment based. You do not want to use a pigment based ink in a cartridge that is designed for dye ink. It will clog the nozzles in no time.

You can try and worst case scenario you end up with a new dead printer instead of just one.

You have to remember that Epson inks are designed to be jetted using a piezo electric effect while Canons use bubble jetting which involves boiling the ink. If the Epson ink boils in such a way as to deposit residue in the printhead you're going to be headed for game over pretty quickly...

Fortunately or not: the IP1800 uses the integrated inktank/printhead design, making it possible to experiment without blowing your printhead. Sadly enough: the cartridges are even more expensive than your printer.....
