I'm working on a univeristy research project where I'm going to be modifying a pizeoelectric inkjet printer to print a very special type of ink. The ink contains solids, and I need to be sure they will fit through the nozel of the printhead. I need to use a piezoelectric type printer.

I was hoping there might be some insight available to help me choose the best model for the job.

I think I'll need a really old printer (logic: older technology = worse imaging printing resolution = larger drop size = larger nozel) I need a larger nozel. Something like 30 - 100 microns in diameter or larger. I've heard the Epson Stylus 800 has a nozel diameter < 30um.

For further discussion, I will want something I can modify to refil the ink cartridge, and clean after each use.

Thanks for the help!

If you're printing biological tissue/organs, I seem to remember most of the demos I saw for that were HP printers... which are thermal printheads.

Otherwise I leave it to the experts!

Hence the piezoelectric constraint - though printing with a thermal DOD printer has been accomplished with 97% cell viability ;)
