On my Epson Pro 3880 I purchased a new T5820 Maintenance cartridge to replace an old one that is full and needs to being replaced.
I removed the old cart and did put in the new one.
But the new maintenance cartridge is refused.
So I purchased another new maintenance cartridge, but the same story: it is not accepted!

What can I do?

Thanks fo your advise.

The chip on the back of the cart may not be contacting the pins in the printer. Might try putting a piece of vinyl tape on opposite side of the cart to press it into the contacts better. Might also try and clean the contacts too. I use Caig Deoxit-Gold for that stuff.

I have ink carts do the same where it might not accept the new cart. I put a piece of felt or fleece under the cart and it lifts it up a bit to make contact and the printer works again.

Hi Harry, are you not using a resetter for your printer ? You can use it to reset the maintenance catridge. I use it too on my Epson P800 printer, which happens to have the same maintenance cartridge and fill the central hole with a piece of kitchen paper towel or even toilet paper and replace it regularly after each cleaning cycle. Why waste your money and plastic on the dustbin ?

Dear pharmacist,
Thanks you for reply.
You refer to a "central hole"
Can you please let me know where to find this on my Epson 3880.
Thank you!

The central of hole of your maintenance cartridge where the ink is dripped onto: i put a two pieces of paper towel wrapped and pressed into a cylinder like plug, which I push into this hole to have the ink absorbed onto it. After 2 cleaning cycles I removed this ink soaked paper towel ball and replace it again with a fresh clean one every two cleaning cycles. This way the absorption material of your maintenance cartridge will stay as dry as possible.

As you can see I also put paper in the two oblonged holes with paper, so completely sealing the area that is above the waste ink hole in the printer and all the ink is absorbed by the paper towel during cleaning cycles.

Actually the Epson Pro 3880 resetter is originally designed for this very maintenance tank and I discovered by incidence it reset the original cartridges as well.

Another option is to pry off the top of the maintenance cartridge (easy to do with a screwdriver). Then remove the ink saturated felt and replace with a stack of folded paper towels. Replace the plastic top and reset the chip on the maintenance cartridge. That way I recycle my maintenance cartridges.
