duplex printing on canon ip4500

I've got the ip4500 printing duplex from a pdf file but can't get it to duplex when I am scanning documents on a scanner. I set the page setup for duplex printing but get each scan on a different page. Any ideas if it's possible to do this? I'm using an Epson Perfection 2400 from within the Epson smart panel package.

Using my Canon MP610, which is like a iP4500 with a scanner, I scanned 4 documents as pdf files. It created 4 separate pdf pages that I could not select to print all 4 at the same time using duplex printing. In the software that came with my printer, I was able to go to the 1st page and select edit/add a page. I did this three times, each time selecting the next pdf and it combined them all to form a 4 page pdf. After doing this, I was able to print them using duplex printing.
