Dreaded 8 beeps on bjc-85 and waste tank reset doesn't fix

Hi there,
I've read everything I can find and it looks like I'm in a hole.
The BJC-85 won't fix using the waste tank reset - and from reading another post on this forum, it's 60 pounds to get Canon to fix it - the cost of a new printer - albeit not one as nice as mine!
Given that it's heading for the bin - is there anything 'last ditch' I can try to get it back on its feet?

According to this site, eight beeps refers to the printhead?
Doesn't look promising.

Thanks Jackson, Interesting that I still get the error, even when the printhead isn't in the printer? Does that make any sense to you?
