Draining a Canon cartridge

Sorry startman but I do not understand your post, most probably is due to my limited english knowledge.

As far as I know the correct procedure is:
- Flush the cartridges with distilled water to remove the ink.
- Once done, use the ghwellsjr's method but dot not completely dry the sponge.
- Insert the pharmacist's formula into the cartridges and let it act a bit.
- Then use again the ghwellsjr's method to remove all that it is possible.
- Refill the cartridges with your preferred method.

Is this correct?

Try the above steps.

As far as how much non-ink fluid you want to remove -- it's up to you and your tolerance for image quality. A little bit of water left in the sponge will gradually be removed by successive refills over time. To some, however, any dilution of ink is unacceptable as it affects image quality.

This method is excellent for drying your cartridges very quickly, but be careful because you don’t want to over dry them.

Once you have your paper towel properly in place then 30 minutes is more than enough time to drain most of the water out of your cartridge which will make it ready to be refilled again, but don’t forget to reset the chip before filling.

Hat, how do you store empty carts that won't be refilled immediately after flushing from drying out too much?

When you have finished purging and then drying your cartridges, remember to reset the chip then put the original orange clip back on to the bottom and secure it with a rubber band or if using the compatible clips (3rd Party) just secure them by the clip. (Snap-on)

I like the Hats idea of adding the screw under the rubber band, this helps keep pressure contact between the paper towel and the sponge in the exit port. Better yet for quick drying a flushed cart check out my whrling sock idea. This is the ultra fast way of getting the cleaning water out of the cart if you are in a hurry.

Believe it or not but when I’m in a big hurry to dry a cartridge I too use your Whirling sock drying method to get me back printing..

Glad to hear someone else is in a hurry sometimes like I am. Other times Im just plain impatient and want to get the whole thing done while its on my mind.
