I think most people who have tried Hobbicolors ink will agree that it is excellent value for money. However the one (and only) drawback is the vividness of the magneta ink. This can be adjusted in the printer driver preferences but I wonder if the ink can be diluted to make it less vivid. Could printhead cleaner fluid be used for this purpose? One company (ink.co.uk) actually sell a refill kit which includes printhead fluid to mix with colour ink to craete photo c,y & magneta.

Has anyone ever tried this out?

Don't try this. Printhead cleaning fluid contains detergents, which can can cause youre ink to bleed heavily on paper. Why not create a custom printer profile to overcome this problem ?

Well I decided to have a go at diluting the magneta ink. I only did it with 1 cartridge, injecting a little printhead cleaning fluid & topping up with hobbicolors ink. My first prints were disappointing with photos still showing a distinct magneta cast. However, my latest prints show an amazing difference IMO. The magneta hue is gone and skin tones, blues, yellows, blacks & grey seem more natural, very near to Canon OEM prints. It would seem that the "mixture has needed time to work through the cartridge sponge & printer.

I haven't gone as far as diluting the whole ink bottle but I might try it next with a part full bottle and see how that goes. I know I can alter the printer driver preferences but if diluting works it will save me the hassle & will also make my magneta ink last longer.

Thanks to the guys who replied to my post and I do value your advice. However, I was mainly concerned about any effect it may have on the printhead.
