Diagnosing color problems on a Pro9500

I also noticed some dark streaks in the RGBCMYK row. Some of the streaks go across 3 or 4 columns.

Epson can spit mutliple droplet sizes from one nozzle, Canon cannot , they have separate nozzle rows for the same ink for different droplet sizes - like 1pl, 2pl and 7pl . So in theory the 1pl nozzle could overprint a missing 2pl droplet, that's what the driver probably does anyway when tuning color tones and mixing smaller and bigger droplets in one pixel.

Yes, but has anyone ever formally seen what the actual unique mixing combinations are though. Like how much unique combinations are really possible with the control channels and processing available in the printer. I am in the side that there are in fact fairly limited combinations and not as fine a combination as many think and what we have been led to believe.

Another taught came to me over this colour issue, maybe we’re looking at this problem all wrong, like arse about face, what if this customer is using his ink correctly and its driving him mad because he has checked the bottles carefully but still his colours are all over the place.

What if there is a problem with the label on the bottles, it can also cause the same outcome, we simply don’t know because none of us even considered the possibility that the problem may be from source and not from a refilling mistake, I know none of us are perfect, but it might be nice to hear it from the other side...

The test is to take a cotton swab and sample each ink by striping in on photopaper. PM and M and PC and C can be determined this way with little effort.

no, and we can assume that the driver/firmware could make use of the fact that not all small color variations are visible - delta E etc , and all further details are firmware/driver secrets, but that's beyond the scope of this posting.
