Desperately seeking.....: Epson Pro 3800 cartridge chips !!!

Hi folks,

For my extensive test for the available Epson Pro 3800 refillable cartridge systems I am now desperately seeking empty Epson Pro 3800 cartridges. I need the chip only, which can be easily removed from the cartridge. Please contact me via PM. If there are some refill companies reading this message, it might help them decide which system they want to stock for selling.

If possible you could me send me the whole set of 9 cartridge chips + maintenance tank chip, but I will be happy if you could only send me a few of them.

Jon Cone sells the 9 original chips for $45 The same chipset and item # are used for both the 3800 & 3880.

I came across this info today while searching for a refillable cart set for my recently purchased 3880 that I mentioned in an earlier post. Jon has quite a discussion about his color inkset for the 3880, instead of using vivid light magenta, he employs a vivid light cyan, he does however use a vivid magenta. This explains why he insists that his entire inkset must be installed at once. The refill carts are from InkRepublic.

I am very curious what comments you and other posters have regards to this 'technology' paragraph in their 3880 info section. Can anyone comment about the quality of their color prints using this inkset??

You will notice that while we have a Vivid Magenta, we do not have a Vivid Light Magenta - rather instead a Vivid Light Cyan. This is because we have matched the Epson RGB printer driver with compatible color - and found we needed to change these two components. The competing third-party solutions which have attempted to match both magentas are not good color matches. Please be assured that we know what we are doing! We have a very long history in color ink formulation dating back to the early 1990s. Our goal was not to try and match each color component. Rather, when a customer used our inks in place of Epson inks - we wanted them to experience the same color space. We were successful using this method.

ConeColor K3 inks are compatible with all Epson printers that use the Ultrachrome K3 inks. These are the Epson 2400, 3800, 7800, 9800. ConeColor ink is compatible with matte papers when the Matte Black is used, and with glossy papers when the Photo Black is used.

You do not need to use flush carts in order to use ConeColor inks if you have been using Epson inks. You can allow ConeColor inks to slowly chase out the Epson inks. For desktop printers, ConeColor inks are compatible with refillable cartridges. Some CIS systems which use vinyl tubing may not be compatible with ConeColor inks.

Does this last paragraph indicate that the use of Cone vivid LC and Epson vivid LM are equivalent-and can I insert any OEM 80ml cart in an emergency? I will asking these questions of them and report back.

Actually yes: Cone and inkjetcarts.us sells the same Inkrepublic.com's superior cartridge desgin, which I have confirmed in my big refillable Epson 3800 cartridge experiment. About the ink quality I cannot comment, since I am still using Image Specialists IM-K4 inkset which works very satisfactory for me, when properly profiled. The supplied Inkrepublic.com's IRK4-nano pigment inkset is still inside the bottles, since I have to consume my rather big stock of IM-K4 ink.

Both Precisioncolors.com and inkjetcarts.us sells Image Specialists IM-K4 and IM-K4 vivid inksets for the R2400/Pro 3800 and the R2880/Pro 3880.

Now this is very old topic and meanwhile I already got the necessary cartridge chips.

Maybe I should ask Cone to supply me with some bottles of sample ink to test, because there are a lot to my eyes fake "good" reports of how well ink X or ink Y works, but actually to me: Epson K3 ink still rules supreme, but unfortunately very expensive. Rather then plainly saying: the Inkrepublic.com's I-refill Pro 3800/Pro 3880 system is superior so must the ink, I rather want to be realistic about the ink, since I am still NOT using them. Image Specialists has done its work pretty well and give very satisfactory results, but still not as good as original Epson K3 ink.

Unfortunately Cone is a bit expensive for the cartridges. Inkjectcarts.us is cheaper.

About the Inkrebublic's I-refill system: yes you can consume it together with a original cartridge in case of emergency but you will have to tape off the chip like the other chips and it must NOT be the one carrying one of the two tuning chips.

And since you mention mixing inks, Im actually mixing IS inks with a few oem Epson carts....good or bad idea?

Hi Forti876: yes you can. No problem at all. The only problem is the the weaker magenta of the IM-K4 inkset. For this moment I do not print much, because the "Candy Shop" is overcrowded with ill people suffering from the usual autumn discomforts....

I have a lot of empty T58 carts but the chips were recieved in full Empty condition. They may not be resetable if that is your goal. If something else is your goal, I can provide you with a full set. Just not for the maintenance cart.

Well maybe you can help clear this up for me. I'm not really knowledgable on this topic at all, I just purchased the epson 3800 printer from someone and they said they have full ink cartridges but they took out the chips to use elsewhere? So that's as much as I know about what I need.

Well, I am afraid you will have to look for somewhere to get these necessary chips. DO NOT install these cartridges into your printer, because the chip readers will be damaged when you removed these cartridges without the chip.
