Converting Spyderprint 225 patch target to i1Profiler

@crenedecotret : that is fantastic work from you. I might give it a try too. I can scan using both my i1Studio (Colormunki) and my i1Pro2 spectro and see if there is any difference.

I am intriged this limited patch count target from SpyderPrint does such a good job. It has only 225 patches. It would be even interested when you could make a combined target using this 225 patch target and the gray (ramp) target like I did using i1Profiler.

Your results confirm the hardware of the Colormunki is superior to the SpyderPrint device.

Can you extract the data from the pxf file from i1Profiler to convert it to a t1/t2 file ?

The package is also interesting for those using the i1profiler package.

@pharmacist Well.. i'm not 100% convinced the datacolor device is terrible. The profile done from my old readings exported from the spyderprint software is much better processed by argyllcms than the exact same data processed in the spyderprint software. My colormunki argyllcms profile is better but I also had way more patches... I'll probably do a test print from both today. I suspect that the argyll/munki and argyll/spider profile will be very similar.

I had never seen the file format from i1profiler before but I was able to get a little bit of help from Microsoft Copilot. in the attached zip, you'll find the powershell script that Copilot built for me for extracting the rgb values from the pxf and the ti1/ti2/tiff files.

The tiffs look different than the original spydercharts. I double checked my 20 first patches in the ti1 file and they are exactly in the same order as they are found in your .pxf. I think i1profiler might have randomized what you fed it from the spydercharts, assuming you read them line per line

I have a big ask... is there any change you may have saved the R G B values for the 225 patch extra greys chart before you brought them into i1profiler? I'd like to create another "exact replica chart" for the greys and it would save me the hour looking and writing down patch values in GIMP

Fun thing I did while writing this... I figured it would be nice to have a tool to add rgb values without having to mess around with xicclu, excel, etc. AI is insanely useful for our crazy endeavors

Another AI creation that will be useful for users of ArgyllCMS. This python script will take a txt file with R G B values and output to a ti1 file that include the necessary data (patch number, RGB on a 0-100 scale and XYZ values). The TI1 file can then be used with printtarg to print for whatever device you are measuring for.

The input format is 1 patch per line, spaces between R G B values, R G B values 0-255

With this, we should be able to reproduce practically any popular profiling chart to argyllcms and see what kind of results we get. As soon as i'm done with my "datacolor replicas", I might go for the old TC9.18 since those RGB values are known.

I will upload the original gray ramp target from spyderprint later one, so you can have look at it and convert it to the ArgyllCMS format

Thanks... Here are two versions of the High Quality Target plus Grays for Argyllcms.

The first version includes the color and gray charts patches in order. I had to modify the scale a tiny bit because the gray target has more patches than the color target. The color portion ends up looking the same as my previous chart and close to the original target. The grey one will be different. I added one black and one white patch so that the second page would be completely full.

The second chart has the same patches but the tiffs are in randomized order. I was worried that a colormunki would have trouble reading similar gray patches right next to each other.

I'm tempted to do the 729 chart but measuring the patches in photoshop takes forever......

I'll do the old Gretag TC9.18 chart next that used to the be gold standard. The RGB data is available through X-Rite for that one.

**EDIT** Pharmacist found an error in one of the gray spyder patches. I replaced the attachment with the correct version

Here is the TC9.18 target. It's scaled at 306 patches per page which should work OK for a Colormunki. I randomized the chart.

I suspect this one won't be any better than a normal ArgyllCMS profile with or without preconditioning

but hey.. this is for science

Here is Bill Atkinson's 1728 patch target plus a few gray patches to fill the page. This is 4 letter sized sheets with slightly enlarged i1 patches

And finally for those that do not care about paper, Bill Atkinson's 4096 patch target. This is 10 letter pages at i1 size. The 10th page was only partially full so to fill it, I added the Spyderprint extra grays and an extra 15 random patches.

I don't see myself ever using this one... ever.. but the data was available so why not.

Hello, I think there is an error in one of the patches at row AD: the hue of the 5th patch seems to be off.
