comparison PIXMA iX4000/5000 with 6700D?

PIXMA iX4000/5000 does not have dedicated black ink cartridge, it has only pigment for text.

Printers that do not have black ink cartridge used when printing photos usually brint way worse because CMY colors are mixed to get black color.

Perhaps someone own both and could elaborate on the quality in black color?

I did once posessed an IX4000 printer and did have serious problem to get a neutral B/W printing with the original Canon CLI-8 inks. There was a horrible magenta cast on the prints. However using Hobbicolors UW-8 ink removes this cast almost entirely. I was amazed that without any photo black cartridge the composite black was really deep black on high quality photo paper.

In fact: try to print an B/W image on photopaper with a C/M/Y printer like a IP3000 or IX4000 and see what the result is. The cheaper quality refill ink will give you muddy/purplish print result.....

I compared the printing with one I did on my i9950 (8 cartridge printer with photo black) and could hardly see any differences when using Hobbicolors UW-8 ink. However the i9950 prints a more neutral facial tone and looks more natural.

To be honest: a dedicated photo black will definitely improve your black colour on your photo paper......

Ip4000 and ip5000 all have a dedicated photo black ink cartridge. It is ip3000 that does not have one. Having a dedicated photo black has a few benefits. One is reducing wear on C, M and Y nozzles. The other is to increase gamut. There is more black and white dynamics if a dedicated photo black is used. Yet another I can think of is to increase printing speed because of a separate set of photo black nozzles.

Ip4000 and ip5000 are no longer made. They were replaced by ip4200 and ip5200. Now even ip4200 is replaced by ip4300 and ip4500. Ip4500 has more nozzles then ip4300. These two new printers are not only faster because of higher number of nozzles, they are more robust and free from clogging. I have seen BCI6 based printers getting clogged right in front of me watching them printing with no sign of trouble before the trouble began. Ip4300 that I use never coughed even once. In my opinion forget about ip4000 nor ip5000. Get ip4500. It is a much better one for about $100.

Pharmacist you are right. I somehow read ip4000/5000 rather than 1x4000/5000. Ix4000/5000 are international models not sold in USA. In the states there are ip4000/5000 everywhere 2 years ago.
