Not to belabor everything and the kitchen sink, but... do dye-based inks stain stainless steel sinks?

Short answer - In my experience NO.

Longer answer: I washout, clean, and purge dye based ink carts over a stainless steel sink without any obvious staining. For the most part the the sink's exposure to what is exclusively PS dye based inks is relatively short - probably minutes not hours.

In my own experience they only stain deposits such as limescale, dirt, etc... they don't stain the clean metal...

It's a great way to prove that you have indeed cleaned... or.. erm.. not.

Same thing happens in ceramic sinks but all bets are off if the glaze has been damaged, exposing the ceramic underneath..

ref clogging prevention - just do what you think does the job for you . There are so many different recommendations published that it is not clear which one would be better than another. And enjoy printing the way you do it.

Thanks @Roy Sletcher and @websnail for the info.

I have used a cement sink to refill over and it can stain if you don't wash away dripped ink soon enough. Will be switching to a stainless steel sink for next refill.

You could run a test whether Clorox or Windex would do a better cleaning job.....

@Harry Briels, you have a good way of increasing the humidity inside your printer all right, but if you turn on and forget to remove the container, the humidity will also increase in the print room.:barnie *!&!**

You would also need to place a sheet of paper on top of the printer with big printed type on it saying "Don’t forget about the humidity thingy "...:old

I know I'd forget...

Alas and forlorn, I no longer live there and doubt the current owners would appreciate our thirst for knowledge.
