So my question: anyone has any experience with CLI-8 replacement inks (esp. Inktec) for CLI-521??? If there is a clear color shift, is it correctable via printer driver settings or colour adjustment in image editing program?
According to Canon they called the ink in CLI-521 Chromalife+. This is a letter of + added to the terminology of Chromalife ink in CLI-8. By looking up Canon web site for information of Chromalife+ all I can find is its claim of many more years of fade resistance added to that of the Chromalife ink.

Apparently all new Canon printers are now supplied with ink cartridges with Chromalife+ inks. The Chromalife ink has really short lived. Now here is the question. What are the real difference changing from Chromalife to Chromalife+?

Chromalife is only found in CLI-8 ink cartridges, which are used in Pro9000, and MKII, the high end printer.
Chromalife+ are in all CLI-31, CLI-41, CLI-51, CLI-221 and CLI-521, which are found in low, mid and mid-high end printers.

If there are really differences the differences should be for improvements that make the Chromalife+ better. Now that it is a better ink why it is used for low, mid and mid-high end printers but the high end Pro9000 series continue to use Chromalife ink?

I think it is really just a marketing hype to add a + letter to the excellent Chromalife ink. For years I have really appreciated the Chromalife's accuracy of the three primary colors. The accuracy of the CMY colors is the fundation of all composite colors the printer prints. Chromalife ink no doubt is a top notch ink in this regard. I can not find such accuracy of composite colors in low end printers with CLI-31, 41 and 51 ink cartridges with Chromalife+ ink.

I don't think I will live for another 100 years to witness the only claimed difference of Chromalife+ ink.

I have been using OCP inks in my BCI-6 carts for the Canon i9900, when I switched over to the Canon Pro 9000 and it's CLI-8 carts I intended to continue with the same ink. Checking with OCP, I was advised that the formulation of the CLI-8 ink was different. Improved fade resistance and a wider gamut, however If I was generating my own profiles the BCI-6 is safe to use if the print results were found satisfactory. When ordering a new supply of ink, order the CLI-8 version and take advantage of the improvements.

OCP ink is a respected product on this site and other 'printer oriented' sites, I have no hesitation in ts recommendation. Several posters have reported similar advice from OCP concerning the 2 ink versions.
