CLI-8 cyan problem

I have been refilling my Canon MP830 by German method for several years alternating between two sets of Canon cartridges and using a resetter. I have just had my second cyan cartridge apparantly go bad. It resets, but after istalling, printer tells me that there are more than one cyan cartridge installed. I installed a new cartridge and error message disappears and printer now prints okay. My question - is there a "drop dead" date embedded in the chip or did the chip just go bad? Any idea why only the cyan? Maybe the resetter (I replaced the battery with no help to with the error)?

I think the chip just goes 'bad' I've lost a magneta, black & photo black in recent months. The resetter resets the chip ok but the printer doesn't recognise the cartridge. Sometimes a pencil rubber can clean the chip but in most cases the chip is dead.

Still think how much you've saved by refilling as against purchasing OEM cartridges.

Saved a lot, no question. Just seemed wierd that it was two cyan cartridges in a row and no others.

Cyan gets used more than any other colour. Could be that you've reset these cartridges more times than the other colours

Quite possibly so. I got my hands on several empty CLI-8 cartridges. Will refill and incorporate into rotation. Will also try to keep track of # of refills.

Sometimes a static zap can kill a chip, doesn't take much, and most times you never know you've zapped it, I take my shoes/slippers off before I touch these, seems to have cut down on the amount of dead chips I've had.
